Crystal & Panda - I see that we are all at about the same point in Hell Week. I share your sleep misery - it's horrible. It has to get better as our bodies adjust! In addition to being sleep deprived...I have a ton of physical symptoms -- My head is all stuffed up, my throat is sore, etc. -- I sound & feel like I have a bad cold. Anyone else have this? Ok, I think I'm going to DIE if I don'g get some proper, DEEP sleep soon. I havent slept for more than an HOUR at a time since Sunday night. And I KNOW at least I'm falling BACK asleep now, but I cant STAY asleep, meaning I'm not reaching the deep, regenerating R.E.M. sleep, meaning i am SHATTERED. During the days I feel like I'm in a dream...I can't wake up....I'm clumsy, tired, grumpy, cold, and generally feeling quite ILL! How long does this go on for? I dont know whether to contribute the emotional issues to quitting smoking or to sleep deprivation...I know I am useless without enough sleep, and I feel like I can't cope with this any more. Incredibly, I dont either feel the desire to smoke, or think it will make the slightest difference to the sleeping pattern. I just WANT TO FEEL BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didnt smoke for over a YEAR when I was pregnant and just after my daughter was born...god alone knows why I started again....but i don't remember suffering ANYTHING like this...in fact I recall it being the easiest thing I have ever done. THIS time its harder, but I'm determined. Sorry, I'm rambling now. I am just SO TIRED! And being a single parent, spending a day in bed watching TV and sleeping and just generally chilling out (which is what i WANT to do) is not an option. GRRRRRRR! (Feel a bit better now, think I just needed a rant...thankyou SO much for listening!!!!!) I would guess that a lot of your issues are as much from the sleep deprivation. I also am WORTHLESS if I don't get my sleep. Can you take a tylenol p.m. or something... maybe a half one? I think this is probably something that time will heal but I know how frustrating it is. My sleep patterns are totally messed up too and from what I've read this seems to be pretty common for the first week. Hang in there! It does feel better just to vent a little... Hi Struggling, I actually had my last smoke early Monday a.m. and then woke up Tuesday a.m. with a bad sore throat but it's already gone away. My sinus congestion seems better than before I quit. My most noticeable physical symptom has been an almost constant twitch in my left eye (probably from lack of sleep) Annoying but not painful. My self-talk is that failure is not an option. I will not smoke no matter how bad it gets... I want to take control of my life back and I can't do that if I smoke. We'll get thru this - this is a huge challenge and we can put up with a week of hell, even 2-3 weeks of hell if that's what it takes. Hang in there with me, k? Take care of yourself. Ron - I've read several of your post and you are so inspiring because you're where I want to be and it sounds like no matter how dark it got for you - you've found a way to rise above the challenge every single time! YAY YOU! Keep going!

Good morning Crystal. Reading your post sounds so familier. If you read back a few days... you'll see I was just about at my wits end. I had the sleeping problem a few days into my quit as well, and it lasted till day 24 for me. I pray this doesn't happen that long for you Crystal. I felt all those same feelings as you are right now, (add in a couple of others even). Fighting this quit for people like us is expecially difficult because not only do we have to face the Nico withdrawls and the S*** that goes with that, we get to do it feeling like Zombies from the lack of sleep. I wouldn't give in and try sleeping aids, perhaps that is an option for you. Are you getting excersize Crystal? Fresh air helps alot. The power of a long slow walk is imeasureable! I spent lots of time posting, and waiting... sometimes almost in tears... for a reply. Someone to cling too, help me through the dark moments. (Which was almost always for me). You guys rock!! I truly think that ex-smokers are the toughest, wisest group of people that walk this earth. Good on every one of you! I have forgotten now just how bad it was in the beginning but reading your struggles brings it all back to mind. You WILL get through this because you WANT a LIFE that is FREE from nicotene addiction. You wouldn't be here if you didn't. Crystal, When you first quit or cut down, you may find it difficult to sleep as long as you used to. Two things can cause this are: As a smoker your sleep may have been interrupted by constant coughing and/or difficulty breathing. When you stop smoking, your body gets healthier and the sleep you get is more restful. So if you wake up suddenly at 5:00 a.m., you may think you are a victim of insomnia. You're probably not! Your body has probably had all the sleep it needs. Smoking drains your body's energy. When you quit smoking you regain this energy. You may need fewer hours of sleep. How long will this last? The first few weeks after quitting. Tips to help: Try making sure you have a regular sleeping schedule. If you wake up in the middle of the night do some light stretches, or read a book to help you get to sleep. If you have a symptom that persists or seems worse than you expected, you should immediately consult a doctor. It�s possible that your smoking has been masking symptoms of some illness, and when you stop smoking the symptoms abruptly become noticeable.
