Thanks everyone for the support. I just watched the Sopranos and actually forgot about my health for an hour (Yeah!). Aside from worring about things I can't control my only other concern is substitution. I dont want to stop smoking only to pick up a nasty alcohol habit, especially since it runs in the family. I'll be watching myself closely. Thanks again everyone. I'll let you know how the test goes a week from now. I can't thank you guys enough. It is harder than most people think. The worst part is, I was out with some friends tonight and all I heard was, "you're too young to quit" or "don't be a b'tch, just smoke like a man". I think I need to find some new friends. But thank you everyone.

Thank you so much for responding. I don't know if I've made it perticularly hard on myself by trying to quit both 'cold turkey' on top of the fact that I have this anxiety. I was looking around some other forums and have found a lot of habitul marijuana smokers with the same problems. I hope at 22 I havent made a mistake that will cost me my life..

I don't know why my last post was locked? I was hoping to hear people say they experienced the same thing. I'm seeing a pulmonologist (Sp?) in a week but the brown and black flecks in my sputum continually scares me. Is this even somewhat normal? I am seeing doctors just to be sure but I know that with a week until my appointment I am going to have the longest 7 days of my life. Also, the dark phlegm (sorry if im grossing someone out) is getting better but every now and then, it will come back heavy. Also if i try to 'force' it up, I wind up hurting my chest and rupturing vessels, I think, because I'll get a pink tinge to the saliva. Again, Chest X-ray was good, Doc said my lungs sounded good and my Oxygen level was at 98%. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Really, no offense, but these friends seem to be lacking. I wish I had quit at your age! Hey Par, Yepper - new friends crossed my mind in reading your last post. WTF are they thinking? Dear one, take it easy... You are young - you are now taking care of yourself, and you have good buds here to support you. Relax, breathe deeply, and let's look at the glass as half full:) Keep us posted, we're here and we care. Paranoid, Good job on not giving into "friends" that are really giving you some peer presure. Isn't it amazing that even adults will resort to elementary behaviors when they want to feel better about a bad choice they are making. Your friends are trying to make themselves feel better. Smoking for them will NOT make you feel better. You get to be the bigger quitter and lead the way. Great job. As for your health - I am 35 and always concerned about mine. But you have to let that go - stress can do just as much damage. Think about healthy ways you can live. Don't worry about coughing out junk for the first few days - go to the doctor and ask him/her to check you out. Run the tests and don't stress about it. When you are dwelling on "death", think about all the good things about life and what things you enjoy. Go for a walk, go to church, go and get a healthy snack, read a book, bike . . . whatever floats your boat. Usually when you are focused on the negitive, you can't see the light around you. If you think about it, some of your health is already restoring. Walking a block may be getting easier. :) See you are getting healthier. My mother battled cancer for 6 years and 7 months - now SHE HAD something to worry about! You know, she never looked at the negitive or thought about her "last day". She looked up and looked for a treasure in each day to be revealed to her. She used to go on daily treasure hunts. (Some of these were while in bed after a tough dose of chemo too.) Everyday, she was able to find something. I am glad you have this group. Focus on the good things. Maybe change your screen name to used to be paranoid and mentally picture yourself well. As with all good advice - keep your doctor appointments, but let them tell you what is going on. They went to school a long time to become healers. :) They want to help and make you well. I agree, great friends! Hope the visit to the doc's goes ok. One thing for sure is that your health can only be much improved by not smoking and at 22 you are unlikely to have done as much damage as most of us who have smoked for many many years. We all find it hard with the quitting and we all worry now that maybe we have quit too late to save us. Most of us have done it in time and I am sure you have too. Try to do something to take your mind off it, red, watch TV, go for a walk, have a nice soak in the tub. Watch the NASCAR race on TV, they are racing in Bristol, that will take your mind off anything :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/21/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 339 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,493 Amount Saved: $2542.5 Life Gained: Days: 44 Hrs: 10 Mins: 10 Seconds: 18
