BRAIN FOG TIMELINE

18 years ago 0 13 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi guys, I'm definately foggy... Maybe my husband would say I'm ALWAYS foggy and now I'm just using my quit as an excuse. He's never smoked, dislikes smokers and has as much sympathy for me as he can muster (but it's not enough). I too use lists to help me, though lately I keep misplacing the lists. I have dreams that I forget important events or am emabrassingly late. It would be great if there were some kind of social support. Though our society is quickly transforming to one intolerant of smoking, I think there is very little sympathy for those trying to quit. "Just stop it" seems to be the general feeling. I remember when I was in treatment (as a child) for a severe eating disorder. Same thing there, "just cut it out". "Where is your will-power?" and all that. Perhaps we need to elect more "ex-smokers" to our legislature! I keep reminding myself that this may be easy for some, but it's not for me. SO, if i manage to quit - I'M FANTASTIC! Also, those never smokers simply can't imagine what it's like. It's like explaining snow to those who've never seen it. Other than lists and minimizing our schedules, any other suggestings for this "fogginess"? Thanks, Sierra My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 60 Amount Saved: $12.6 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 14 Mins: 27 Seconds: 14

Hello, I haven't smoked for 4!! days now.... which is good. What worries me is that I don't have *fog*.. is it good or bad?? Or will it come in the near future? Does everybody get it? (That would be bad because my manager just told me that I will be put under pressure from next week on.... ) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 35 Amount Saved: 7.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 5 Mins: 47 Seconds: 52

THANKS 4!!! 40 days is like a month + 1 week so that is like week 5, not that bad!! I have experienced intervals of 1 day clear and 3 days foggy, then 1 day clear and 2 days foggy, then 1 day clear and 4 days foggy, it comes and goes but I feel it MAINLY at work (and I didnt go today thank goodness) but there are definitely times at home and in the car and outside I feel it, just kinda 'smacks' me and I am instantly transformed into a dumb sponge, sucking up all the oxygen and not releasing anything. I hope it does clear soon! I am interested to see what the average is for most people... WILL MY BRAIN PLEASE STEP FORWARD AN THE IMPOSTERS SIT DOWN! I have been talking with Duckie this morning and we were curious as to how long you experience this phenomena called 'brain fog'. While we are both currently experiencing it, we also both understand it is the carbon monoxide toxins clearing, AND we also understand that it is different for everyone depending on how 'fast' they heal. Now I was just going to throw this out there and ask for just a timeline of sorts in general when did your fog clear? 1-2 weeks, 3-4 weeks, week 5, week 6, day 21, day 30, so if there is anyone who has experienced it we would really love to know. The reason behind this is also working toward a goal. For example, if there is a good possibility it will clear by week 4 then it is something to work toward if you are on week 3. Make sense? Almost nothing does in the fog, but then that 'nothing' makes perfect sense! LOL SHEVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just love the fog so much, I get lost and roll around in it then something happens and it's like my mind hits a blank wall and have to keep going back to start all over again. And I don't seem to be bothered by it all that much and I'm glad I don't have to be extremely intellectual when it happens. (It usually happens at work.) WOW phreaknbz you hit a definitely nerve with me and YES I completely agree. My work has been 'congrats' and happy joy-joy from folks for like the first couple days, but after I started going all foggy and emotionally unstable (lol) they were basically just 'ducking' me AND 'testing' me! *makes big growling sound* There was NO sympathy on this end either at my job, so I had bookmarked the SSC on my computer here and if I needed a reminder of just why I should maintain my quit stance I was able to find it here. I felt like I was pretty much out of choices at work. I felt like a hostage to my fog at first but the more I read up on it and the more I accepted it and did very little while I was in it, and talking to other great folks in here about it, I was able to get through it alot easier then if I had resisted it from the get-go. So what if they want to fire me, that was my attitude. And the following thought I had was 'sure go ahead and fire me, I'll just collect unemployment and sleep off my detox WOOOHOO.' lol...either way I didn't care, because I knew that NOTHING was more important than my health, and I am doing this for ME, not my job or my friends or anything else besides the fact that I WANT TO LIVE AND BREATHE. :) You will find a way through this, even if it means hanging onto the SSC with all you've got. Somedays it really is all I have and I really am so grateful for it. Shevie I totally agree that there should be something established where smokers have that 30-days to rehabilitate (with pay!) as I feel that there is a MAJOR cry for help to not just quit smoking but to STAY quit. The first few weeks we are the most vulnerable to our surroundings which is the worst part of it especially if you work or go to school or both! Have a family and kids or not, everyone and everything seems to affect you in one way or another. The folks here have kept me sane through my first couple of weeks and I am grateful beyond words. redrosie you and I have got to talk...I was thinking about this as well, and since I already work at a highly regarded University in CA, I am considering looking into what programs they have for quitting smoking support. I believe we can make a difference right at home where we are. There is a big part of me that has stepped forward
