What's up with wanting to smoke again at 70+ days?

18 years ago 0 3 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I'm at 103 days and have just had 3 or 4 drags and then threw 90% of it away. at first it felk ok but then the physical sickness feeling started and i was soooo dizzy. i stopped for a year before and remember doing this at about 3 months so i'm not so stressed about it. i thought it was better to do it and 'manage' it than put it off and crave. does this sound normal or am i just rationalising it ? i know. there won't be any more slips. no more relapses. no more 20 a day. the reason i started smoking again last year was due to the terminal illness of my mother. even then i lasted 2 months after diagnosis before i relapsed. i smoked for 5 months and a month after she died quit again. that's coming up to 4 months now and i'm feeling good. i don't feel like i want to smoke again but feel like i've passed another marker. i know what you're saying about the classic junky stuff but i found before that i would fixate on smoking and this would get worse and worse. i guess that is the addiction.

Yesterday and today the cravings were quite bad. Not enough to give in or to give up but I just feel sad!! I know what I want and nothing seems to satisfy me - so I have been deep breathing and drinking water. I did not wear a patch the last two days - I guess I am not ready to give them up. Any other suggestions?? Dottie

Dear Phreak Thanks for talking about this. The answers to your thread helped me too. My cravings have been super high for the last few days. I had a few stressful things happen and by default my hands and brain start reading out for the demon. Weird....as I thought I was passed that part. It got so bad once I almost cried. And thanks to all you guys, I said NOPE, Demon I will not let you do that to me! Thanks Preak and all my SSC buddies! Rusty, Every time that I think about smoking I ask myself that question. I don't ask, gee, how will I feel when I smoke that one cigarette; I always think "Crap, I'll end up smoking a pack and a half again, my back will hurt again, and the worst and most effective thought... I'll have to go through the quit process again! Arg. This was hard for me, I don't want to go through those first two months again and I don't want to smoke until I'm old and gray (I'm 42 now, so to some I may already qualify ;-). So, by the time my brain is done going through this whole darn process, I end up saying, So, I guess I'm not going to cheat today, and I don't. The scary part of this is that my brain seems to have this conversation in it at least once a day ;-). Addiction is a stange thing... It's funny because I've read about this stage.. where you think I'll just smoke one, or in my case, I'll just smoke for one day ;-). Luckily, I know my only hope is nope.. gee a poet...;-). Anyway, I'm looking forward to a different me, I hope I find my new normal soon... I hope I like myself again soon.. fat and whiney.. hmmm, at least I smell good :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 79 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,373 Amount Saved: $553 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 16 Mins: 54 Seconds: 33

Ahhh, I didn't feel it today. I felt pretty darn "normal". I'm still a little sick, but getting better (as long as I don't eat much). Most people don't want to smoke when they are sick, but I used to. Being sick was a major trigger for me.. wierd. I've decided to hug my son more.. hugging makes us both feel better ;-). Thanks to everyone for the advice and help, much appreciated. I have to admit that smoking is something that crosses my mind a lot right now. It is very strange that I think so much about it at this point. It is not a physical craving, it is more of a "I want to feel normal and in control" type of thing. Did you or others go through something like this at this point in your quit? Arg, this is more annoying than physical cravings.. its insidious.. what is this? I guess there is a LOT of junkie thinking like... things would be better if I smoked, I could concentrate better, lose weight faster, think more clearly, be in a better mood..etc. etc.. etc.. this is happening serveral times a day and lasts for..well... a while..Help?!?!
