What's up with wanting to smoke again at 70+ days?

Hi phreaknbz, what you're going through sucks! If only we could get through the first month or so and never have to think of cigs again. Unfortunately, for most of us this is fantasy thinking. You know that control while smoking is an illusion. You HAVE control right now, even though it doesn't feel that way. I think you're right on when you say you're looking for a new me. The old smoker is gone from our lives and now we must learn how our "new" mes fit into our lives. "Luckily, I know my only hope is nope.." great words to hold on to. I'm sure you're not as fat and whiney as you feel right now, and look at your stats!! They are looking fashion model perfect!! :) Hang in and hang on, you ARE doing great! phreaknbz I have been that far a couple of times, but I gave in, and then it seems to be harder to quit again. My first quit date was in Oct of 2005 - If I would of stayed quit, I would be going on 7 months smoke free. But I gave in a few times, now I am at 3 days smoke free. It is not worth it to lit up. You have come along way, dont let nic take away what you have worked hard for. You are doing Fantastic. 78 days is something to be proud of. Keep posting & N.O.P.E. Phreaknbz. Been there, done that, got the tshirt. A lot of us go through a tough time around 100 days. You are almost there. I think it was 80 something for me. The good thing is that now you KNOW you can make it through the craves. It just sucks when you haven't had one for a long time and then the crave is back again. You will find this happens from time to time throughout your quit and at different points. I seem to remember the one around 100 days to last about 3 or 4 days and after that any craves were short lived (couple of hours at the most). You are doing great. Just don't smoke or you'll have to start all over again. A lot of quitters think they can have "just one" at this stage of the quit. Those that have that "just one" wind up back to remembering NOPE and regretting it. Skip the regret and just stay quit. It's worth it. If you need to, go back to your coping methods you used in the beginning. They still work! Phreak, This is a horrible addiction, huh!?!?! It gets you when you least expect it and it can last for a while. That, for me, made me mad... the fact that the addiction has such a huge hold on my life that I feel like I have to smoke to feel "normal." You said, "I want to feel normal and in control" - well, you ARE in control when you don't smoke... it's when you smoke that you're NOT in control... the addiction is. This feeling does go away, and sometimes, we wish it would go a lot faster, but unfortunately we can't speed it up... all we can do is be glad that it's not as bad as it once was in the very beginning. Hang in there! Crave the Quit! Steve, Having "just one" is the nicodemon's greatest and most dangerous lie! Be careful because the junkie within you will be saying "see, that wasn't so bad... you can have one every now and then and be fine... you're still quit." DON'T LISTEN! You were wise to throw the rest away. If you smoke again, you might not be that wise and might finish the whole thing... might even go buy a pack. I'd hate to see that happen to you. Rejoice in your freedom rather than mourn for your slavery! Crave the Quit! SteveB, that's the most classic, textbook junkie thinking there is. Why on earth would you want, after 100 days of being nicotine free, to put nicotine back into you? Do you know why you felt the physical sickness and dizziness? That's your body's way of saying smoking is poison. Those feelings are warning signs that what you did is BAD! You say you stopped a year ago and then slipped around three months. Now you've slipped again around three months. Are you going to be saying the same thing next year? Are going to spend the rest of your life in quit/relapse increments? Or are you going to quit for good and learn to deal with the junkie thinking? Steve, everytime you smoke you put yourself into withdrawals again. This is the third time today I have posted this piece that I found on another site: Don't debate with yourself how much you want a cigarette. Ask yourself how do you feel about going back to your old level of consumption. Smoking is an all or nothing proposition. Remember that there are only two good reasons to take a puff once you quit. You decide you want to go back to your old level of consumption until smoking cripples and then kills you, or, you decide you really enjoy withdrawal and you want to make it last forever. As long as neither of these options appeal to you -- NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF. Rusty My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/13/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 517 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 14,497 Amount Saved: $1809.5 Life Gained: Days: 71 Hrs: 5 Mins: 20 Seconds: 13

Phreak, This is normal and it will pass :) Many members have been through this and can relate. I see that you have received some good advice. Take what you need and keep it close. You may want to break out a coping mechanism or two, this will help you through. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
