Can't concentrate

18 years ago 0 893 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
This is day1 and I'm at work but not getting much done. I work in a no smoking office so cannot smoke here, I could go for a walk but afraid that I might get lured into buying some cigs (it wouldn't take much). I am just sat here screwing up inside and chewing gum and every minute seems like an hour. I know I will get through until I go home because I have no alternative but I feel guilty because I am not getting much work done. I know the time would pass quicker if I got stuck into my work but I can't seem to concentrate for more than a few minutes. Hey oinkoink, Get some lowfat munchies and carry them with you.. they will help you through the 3 day detox.. clean you car out at luchtime.. vow to keep it smelling clean.. this helped me a lot. pamper yourself.. go home and don't offer to help much.. you are in detox afterall.. pick up dinner or let someone else cook. wash all you jackets.. or have them drycleaned if necessary.. smell your hands .. they smell like hands again. You can do this.. pick up stuff you need to aid you to quit.. we are here every step of the way. Hang tuff !! oinkoink2u, I hope you are doing better and are staying quit. I had a hard time concentrating for about the first...wait, I'm still not quite right. It does get better every day and all the info I can find on the topic indicates that it can last for up to two weeks. It seems to be related to your body expelling the carbon monoxide and getting more oxygen than it's accustomed to getting. It will get better and it is worth it. Hang tough! Oink.........take deep breaths. Your co-workers may think you are nutso, but hey, aren't we all? This is part of withdrawal. Not concentrating, being edgy, irritable, cranky, etc etc etc. Read thru some other posts if you have the time (sounds like you do) and get an idea of what it is you're dealing with.....everyone's symptoms are different, but lack of concentration seems to be a common one. If you are quitting cold turkey, the physical symptoms should be gone in about 3 days - and the rest you may battle with for a while, but they will eventually disappear too.... Keep reading and posting when you need to talk. Someone is always here! Keep going and stay strong! Good luck! Oink, Congratulations on quitting! The lack of concentration... that spaced out feeling, is carbon monoxide leaving your body. The time distortion was one of the worst withdrawal symptoms for me. The time couldn't go quick enough! I felt like an hour was a day and a week was a lifetime! But that will get better too. Just hang in there! You're doing so awesome! Hang in there... drink lots of water and juice to flush the nicotine and keep your blood sugars normal. You're doing great! Keep it up! Crave the Quit! Hi oink, There's not much I can add but since you obviously have internet access, if you find yourself in need of distraction, try some "no brainer" online games. It helps the time to pass faster. "This too shall pass" Keep hangin' in there :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 369 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,397 Amount Saved: $1317.33 Life Gained: Days: 39 Hrs: 3 Mins: 50 Seconds: 27
