Smoking Weight Gain

I was at the Drs. Jan 3 and I was smoking my wt.was 142. I went back Mar.3 non smoking my wt. was 155.I feel good, better than I have in a long time.Now I going to stop eating candy and walk every day.I know I will lose it. It took 3 mos to put on it's going to take 3 mos to lose it.Now that I quit smoking after 47 years losing 13 lb in 3 mos is something I can do!!!!!!! I'm going to be the oddball and say, "Losing Weight". It's easier to just STOP. It's a black-n-white thing. Just say, "N.O.P.E" But with losing weight, I have to think about what and how much I can put into my body. Which has fewer calories, oatmeal or Rice Chex? Can I have a whole cup without going over my 200 calorie limit? I'll keep my breakfast and lunch under 150 calories each so I can have a slice of cheescake for dessert......so much to be conscious about. It takes a lot of time and resources to lose weight. Thanks for the advice Rusty!!! I never meant that I would go back to smoking, I have just not yet seen any benefits to quitting and I am sure it will take time. For me quitting smoking was just plain easy. If I had known how easy it was I would have done it years ago. Amazing! As for losing weight, UGH! I have gained 20 lbs and I tell ya it is not easy trying to lose it. It is darn right frustrating, I have been going to the gym every day for 3 weeks excepts weekends, and i have been watching what I eat, taking different diet pills, and even a water pill...and NOTHING!!!! I am almost to the point of giving up, then I see myself naked in the mirror... YUCK! it is enough to scare anyone back to a treadmill. So, that is my answer. sorry for the negativity, but 20 lbs is alot to me and no results just bum me out. Hi, Quitter. For me it's been quitting smoking, but that's just because the overweight demon is not nearly as big or ugly as the smoking one. I have less incentive to act in a decisive manner. Just 9 days to the beach, huh? Thank you all for the posts, Yes weight loss is way harder for myself then quitting smoking. Starting this running program after few years of couch patrol, 35 lbs is what I would require to lose for my body type according to the experts. So after 3 weeks of exercising hard and attention to what I put in my mouth no difference still around 235 mark. Feel great about exercising but sad because the scale is not moving. Nanny and all, for some reason some of us do gain weight after quitting, no matter what we do. I think it must have to do with genetics, age, and so many other things. Please don't hate yourself when you look in the mirror. Try a few other things -- 1. If you've been doing the same exercise routine every day, change it. They say that a slight shift can get your weight loss off its plateau. In other words, if you're walking every day, try swimming or some strength training once or twice a week. 2. I found that I couldn't lose any weight at all until I started strength training plus cardio. Just two sessions a week with weights or machines can mean a pound or two a week. 3. Use sites like sparkpeople, 3fatchicks, or fitday to really monitor what you eat. I found out that I wasn't getting enough calories, believe it or not. Too few calories can mean your body wants to hold onto the fat it has -- starvation mode. When I went up a little, my weight started to come down. 4. Talk to your doctor, nurse, dietician, or personal trainer to help you design a plan for yourself and your own issues. 5. Forget fad diets and diet aids. Instead pay attention to the quality of food that you are eating. 6. Drink lots and lots of water. 7. Be patient. Unfortunately, it takes time to lose weight. And some weeks you won't lose any, and then all of sudden three pounds are gone. 8. Reward yourself. Just like when you quit smoking, non-food rewards when you have a day of clean eating can really keep you motivated. 9. Look for NSVs -- non-scale victories. The scale is only one measure and it can be a very misleading one at that. The scales are not your friends. 10. Don't go back to smoking thinking you will lose weight. You won't and it isn't worth it.
