Big surprises

I am on my 17th day as a non-smoker. I can't say that it is always easy but I have two good things to say about it. The first is I was in my car at the bank yesterday and while I was waiting I decided to clean up my car. As I was gathering up the little bit of trash from the cubby in front of me I came across a cigarette. Everytime that would happen in other quits my heart would drop to my stomach. My reaction this time really surprised me. When I saw it, my feeling was more of being really annoyed and mad that it was there. I had no feeling whatsoever of wanting to smoke it. My second story is this.. I was having kind of a bad day yesterday with craves and I was watching the news. They were talking about smoking and how they are restricting it in so many places now. They were reading email responses from the public. As I was listening to it all I could think was that I was glad I did'nt smoke anymore. It acually made my cravings go away. I really feel like I am headed in the right direction, although I wish it would happen faster. I guess we all need to realize that in the scheme of things 17 days, 3 months or whatever is nothing compared to years of smoking. We can't expect the cravings to go away overnite. If we know this I think the whole thing will be alot easier to handle. Iwin........ how right you are........we can't expect years of a habit to disappear in 3 weeks or 3 months or sometimes years..... It does get easier. The cravings do lessen, and don't come as frequently. You can go days without thinking of lighting up. That is the good part. The not-so-good-part is that you can be sailing along and then WHAMMO you get hit. But as long as you are prepared, not too arrogant and have your gum/candy/toothpick/mantra handy, you can deal with it and move on Your attitude is fantastic and I see success in your future! Congrats and stay strong....... :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/19/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 40 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 608 Amount Saved: $270 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 15 Mins: 54 Seconds: 8

Irwin, Good job not smoking that cigarette - that might have been a tough one to say no to for me. You did well. Keep nailing those victories...
