STU- I am sorry! Try tricking yourself and tell yourself that you are indeed a NON-SMOKER!! This was just a bump in the road. I really really wanted cig last night during some very rough storms here. I think it's a bit like AA, you MUST keep coming back to succeed. At least for a while! Hey Stu, I see you are keeping things lively at the SSC. I'm guessing you dont want to go back to smoking or you wouldnt have come in here to get chewed out. *grin* So now what huh? Well, believe it or not you've actually gotten off a little easier with the SSC crew than when bfs had folks hitting her in the head. If I were you I would follow her lead and hold your head up and start again, except this time you should seriously explore why you only made it this far. I have talked about the no thinking zone on this forum before. Some people dont have to be craving or be stressed. They just stop thinking about being quit. Explore the phenomena of zoning out and youll find out why you chose to buy that pack for no apparent reason (and with this new awareness you can overcome and prevail.) I have faith in you. The ASH kickers have faith in you and they need you too Stu. So, lets get on that bike with cuddles and cruise. Stu- I would not dare speak for others on this site but I can tell you fm my own experience, for some folks, quitting is definitely a learned trait. If Practice Makes Perfect then I am one who comes da*% close to perfect, (i.e. I practiced ALOT!) Also, from what I've read, it is the rare individual indeed who is completely successful in their first & only attempt to quit smoking, (or anything else, for that matter.) Most people "slip" or whatever you want to call it, in their first attempt. Sometimes, now, I actually say to myself, "Wow, I don't smoke. Is that cool, or what?!" Keep up your resolve. If you start to waiver, repeat after me: "I do not smoke!" Even if you don't believe it at first. You will. Cold Turkeys love Quitters! Mc

Stu...It's all a choice. I will not sugar coat it.
I don't know exactly how it happened...and the next thing you know I was standing outside smoking a cig.
What happened was you made a conscious choice to smoke. You are an addict and you know exactly what happened. You let the junkie thinking win. It's a battle for your life and the only person able to fight it is you. We cannot do it for you. We can offer support, but only if you come to us and ask for it. Each and every day you must decide that you do not want to smoke. The decision gets so much easier to make but you it still has to be made every day. When your desire not to smoke outweights your desire to smoke, you will quit. If for some reason you do not reach that point in your life, then it WILL kill you. It really is that simple. The choice is yours. Stu, My heart is broken. I feel so bad for you. I'm sure you feel awful about this, but there's something I HAVE to say. I hope this doesn't come out too harshly, but I feel that this must be said. The problem I have is that you're not taking responsibility for this! "Well I don't know exactly what happened" and "can't seem to put them down" and "It just sort of happened" all REEK of irrisponsibility for your actions! YOU did this! YOU smoked! I assume nobody put a gun to your head and forced you to buy the cigs, smoke them or buy another pack... all before coming here for assistance. We're here to help you... we will NEVER turn our backs on you and you know that. But until you take responsibility for your actions, then who's going to stop you from smoking again? To me, the worst part isn't that you smoked... it's that you are denying (even if it's subconciously) that you deliberately did this. OK, having said that, you had a great quit going and I have every reason to believe that you can and will do it again. I respect you for coming here and fessing up about this. I know that's not easy to do and getting this "tough love" isn't easy either... I know. Trust me, I know. So, I'm proud of you for coming back here and taking your medicine, so to speak. Now, let's get back to the quit, shall we? Crave the Quit! Mc, I'll join you in that "damn near perfect" group! LOL! ;p I've quit more times than years I've been alive! How's THAT for practice? Stu, I think you're doing great. You've got the right attitude and I just know you're gonna make it. Keep your head high. Crave the Quit! Aw stu, Your post broke my heart. Just try to figure out WHY you want to quit. I know you will be back and able to do it. I'll try to be on more often for any support you need. I'm in your corner!
