Are the symptoms of quitting worse than smoking itself?

Oops Parola. I just read my response on 4/3/06..it should read "try NOT to let the monster get to you...". Had a brain fart  Trudy My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 425 Amount Saved: $53.82 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 0 Mins: 22 Seconds: 43

Parola, you know that your desire to smoke right now is because you are an addict. Try to let the monster get to you and drag you back into that black hole. Read over your reasons for quitting in the first place, take some deep breaths and enjoy the clean air. You know that if you take a drag on a cig your head is going to start spinning and you KNOW it's gonna taste awfull-why put yourself through that? Be good to yourself, take that deep breath and give yourself a hug-here's one from me too :). Please hang in there, Trudy My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 311 Amount Saved: $38.87 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 11 Mins: 33 Seconds: 34

It is day 6 and I am completely tired of all this. I only cry, am physically and mentally very vulnerable, can not do my daily routine - and i am more occupied with smoking than I ever was when I did smoke. I smoked more than 20 years, and I realize everyone is different, for some the path is more difficult. I know I do not want to smoke - but I am not sure wether I am able not to smoke. I feel I am not the boss of my acting - as I am not sure at all that the next 5 minutes I am not going to buy some cg. Please help me somehow. Hi Ron, Thanks, your words - giving me always a little smile. I noticed you had a hard time as well. today I almost asked from someone a cg on the street- but I was saved of that. Sleeping: Pleas lie on your back, put your hands on your stomach, breath out, and in, slowly, and count with every action till five, slowly. Only concentrate on counting, that you do that properly. That means as well slow breathing:) Have a nice dream:) I daydream - about a proper myself:) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/28/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 133 Amount Saved: $39 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 16 Mins: 59 Seconds: 58

Good morning Parola! I promise it will get better! I felt the exact same way, to some degree. I felt as if I didnt have control over myself, or my mind. I cried a lot too. A lot. I think the CD player is an excellent idea. Music does soothe the mind and body. You need something else to think about. The more you fixate on this, the harder it is. Once you can think about something else, it helps. You will be back in control. But you cannot let smoking thoughts control you. Your addiction is trying anything it can to get you back. Dont let it. It is your choice to not smoke. It is your choice to fight this addiction. It is very hard, but you have a great 6 day quit going. Hang in there. Tomorrow will be easier. We are here for you! Keep it up! Your doing great! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 883 Amount Saved: $94.83 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 8 Mins: 49 Seconds: 57

Parola, I hope you will try to concentrate more on your quit than on the cig's. Are you using anything to help you. Have you ask you Dr for help? There is help out there, so don't try to be a hero and quit cold turkey if that is what you are doing. I used the patch and it really helped me, but I'm not saying I didn't have bad day because I did. I don't think I was as bad as you, so that is why I am asking you the questions? I smoked longer than you did and I knew I couldn't do it by my self. My first 30 - 40 days I had no energy and didn't want to do anything and didn't. Just gained weight so now I am concentrating on getting the weight off. I still have bad days but I am in more control, and that is what it is all about. You have gotten some very good advice today and I hope you will act upon it. We all want to quit smoking but you know I thing I was one of those that just didn't want to put the work into it. Quitting smoking is like getting old it is not for Sissies. And I don't think that you are a sissy, I think that you are a winner. So stand up and be counted as a recovering smoker. Blessing sent your way!! :) SUNSHINE My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 86 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,470 Amount Saved: $301 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 10 Mins: 29 Seconds: 59

Parola, I never thought I would be saying this, but I can tell you that eventually, if you stay strong, the symptoms of quitting are NOT worse then smoking is. I used the patch so I cannot speak for how it is cold turkey. Being quit is so much easier then smoking. Just do not smoke. You will be so glad.
