Are the symptoms of quitting worse than smoking itself?

Hang in there it does get better. Try doing things to take your mind off the smoking. I bought a personnal CD player when I quit and listened to it ALLOT at first, the music in my ears was soothing and it took my mind off smoking. I walked, biked, soaked in the tub till I looked like a prune, and slept allot. No one ever died from withdrawal and you won't either. I cried and cried and cried till I thought I would have no more teaers, then I cried some more, think of it as a cleansing for your body. This is not easy but it is worth it. Another poster on here just posted this and I think its good words to live by, I hope they dont mind me borrowing it.
I figure I smoked for a whole lot of years, this isn't something I'll unlearn in a few days.
Please dont go buy some smokes, they wont help and you are going to feel ALLOT worse than you do now, I can promise you that! The cigarettes will not make it better. You're dealing with withdrawal from a highly addictive substance. You didn't think this would be easy did you? You're in a fight for your life with a very tough opponent. What you need to do is take a few deep breaths and relax a bit. take a long hot shower if you can, a walk something. Call your doctor and let him/her know what you're doing, they can help really they can. Don't fold, write down all the good things having a cigarette would do for you right now and you'll see the list is empty. You're doing it! Keep that in mind, that's what's most important - focus on it and feel good about yourse;f even though withdrawal feel like s***! Hang in there - I am pulling for you!

parola.....this is a "choice" to not smoke. feelings of "loosing it" are common in the first couple of weeks. You already know "you" don't want to smoke....it's the junky come callin....tellin you that you can't take this....that it won't end....that giving up will relieve all the stress....solve all the problems..... Take a closer look.....what has actually CAUSED all these problems is the fact that you are "addicted" to nicotine.....and there is only one way out .....DENY the addiction. STAY in CONTROL....don't turn the control back to the addiction! All of us are able to NOT smoke....it's just making the choice and then sticking to it no matter how bad it feels.....those feeling WILL pass. You need to work really hard on learning to distract yourself. Don't let yourself just succumb to the longing to smoke.....FIGHT BACK! Plan small, close together rewards for yourself as you go. A walk....3 minutes of intense stretching, followed by 3 minutes of lying down and learning to practice 'total' relaxation. Breathing exercises. In through the nose, as slow and deeply as possible and out through the mouth, slowly....till every 'drop' of the air leaves your lungs.....close your eyes and learn to focus on something that will take your mind up and away. A long hot shower......a soak in the tub. An afternoon of playing 'sick'...in bed with books and hot tea. and remember....you ARE the boss....as long as you say no....it may not feel like being in control, but trust me, it is! and it WILL begin to get better! Believe it!
