I sooooo hear ya. I was on that band wagon for EVER. For me, i had to just tell myself that it's probably annoying these people that i keep bumming from them (no matter if i gave them $$ or not)and that stopped me from bumming as often, then i just told myself NO MORE. I have to physically avoid the smoking times/areas at work and at play, but its better to be a non-smoker that thinks about smoking than a smoker who thinks about quitting. It amazes me how much i thought about quitting when i was smoking, I think about smoking only half as much as i thought about quitting. Hi Super You stop completely by completely stopping!!! There is no way to quit but to quit. I know it's tough and I wish there was a magic wand we could wave to get us to quit. The truth is that you must decide in your mind that you have quit, then your body must obey your mind. I don't mean to sound simple here but someone early on told me this and the truth is that they were right. Use all the tools that are provided here to help you. Stop bumming the cigs. Again, you must decide that you've had enough. Superkeener....Not One Puff Ever. That is how we all quit. We make a promise to ourselves to beat this addition. We learn all we can about the addiction and the affects of smoking. Not One Puff Ever (NOPE) is the only way to quit. Each time you smoke, you put nicotine back into your system and you get to start the quitting process all over again from square one. Get rid of the cigarettes. Read the posts here....there is a world of good information on this site. Work the program tools to the left and don't smoke. Congratulations on your decision to quit. Superkeener, Let's say you're cleaning out your car... how silly would it be to take one piece of trash out of your car and put one more in? And then take another one out and put another one in? You wouldn't get anywhere, would you? Cleaning out your car would be futile, wouldn't it? That's exactly what you're doing by smoking when you're still quit. Even though you haven't bought a pack, you're still smoking... and it'll be a matter of time before you DO buy the pack... but regardless, even if you never buy a pack again, but continue to bum cigarettes, you are STILL smoking! You are STILL ruining your health. Tell your friends to not give you smokes. Use an NRT if you have to and reward yourself for NOT smoking. THAT is what you have to do in order to stay quit. Unfortunately, you are on the wrong road. The road you are on is a loop of addiction. It will just take you in circles. Read and prepare. Learn that you are an addict. Learn that you can NEVER have another puff. Learn that the only way to stop smoking is to stop smoking. The road to freedom is on the other side of the river. Unfortunately, there is no way to that road without getting wet. If you are willing to get wet and go through withdrawal, then you will reach your goal. Hi superkeener, When you're addicted to smoking, like most of us here are, then there is no such thing as smoking in moderation. You've got to set a date, and then come heck or high water, don't smoke anymore once you hit your target date. Go through the quit program tools. Plan your quit. Knowledge is power. Good luck. have you worked through the quit program to the left? You need a "plan" of attack. Keep posting and keep reading....you can't have too much information about quitting......and don't think that because you are still smoking you are failing.....you only fail when you give up.....stick right in here....you CAN do this Now for your lecture LOL you aren't quit if you are smoking....plain and simple....bumming is still smoking. You have to say a big fat NO to the crave. Quit hanging around people who are smoking....that's a sure way to sabotage your own quit. Make the CHOICE to not smoke..tell your friends to not bum you smokes....then stay away from where they are smoking for the present. You must realise that you are an addict....and as such there is NO bargaining with the addiction. you can't have a puff here or a smoke there and still quit.....it's all or nothing. The fact that you haven't bought cigs means nothing....you are still smoking. you only quit buying....and believe me, that won't last for long. Super, Take the time to prepare yourself and make a list of coping mechanisms. Avoid situations that will cause you to "bum". Distract yourself and keep focused on the task at hand.
