Hi everyone! I�ve been off the cigarettes for 2 months now :) I�m doing great during the week, but when it comes to going out on the weekends, I�m finding hard not to smoke when I�m drinking� If I�m in a place where I can�t then I don�t, but if I can�I can�t stop myself. I don�t want to do it anymore, any suggestions out there�. Please! I am not a big drinker anyway, but like they said your inhibitions may cause you to slip and have a cig. Hi there, I read from your post that you are smoking at weekends? If so then I suggest that you set your meter to zero and get a grip. You are a smoker and the only person that you are fooling is yourself. This is not a game....it is an attempt to give up an addiction. Having once made a deal with myself that I would only smoke in the pub with a drink, I simply went to the pub more. Sorry to be hard but you smoke or you don't. I'm tryin, Smoking on the weekends is still smoking. I'm sorry, but if you're smoking "just on the weekends" then you're not really quit. I've tried that MANY times and that's the most sure-fire way to be right back to normal smoking amount in no time flat. I lost a 132 day quit at a bar because I thought I was strong enough to handle it... we're not. We are addicts and as such, we can NOT have ANY cigarettes... period. It MUST be N.O.P.E. - Not One Puff Ever. I wrote a post on this subject and I will try to find it and bump it for you. It lists very specific steps that to follow to help you keep your quit at a bar. Going out and drinking IS possible without smoking, but let's face it... those 2 things went hand in hand for many many MANY years. So it's only natural that that's going to be the most difficult trigger to get over. And, when you're not sober, it's much easier for the junkie inside you to convince you to smoke. Please, quit now. If you have to stay away from the bars for a while, that might be important, but as long as you're going out to the bars and smoking, then you're not quit... you're just fooling yourself. I'm also going to bump a post for you called "The Social Smoker - What We Need to Know" that will explain why we can NOT be social smokers. Hope all of that helps. I hope I wasn't too harsh, but smoking kills... that's a harsh reality. Crave the Quit! Suggestion: Don't drink!! I can't tell you how many quits I've seen blown because of drinking during the first few months. When you drink the alcohol causes you to lower your inhibitions. People get drunk and end up the next morning next to someone they've never seen before. Same with smoking. Which is more important: drinking & partying, or saving your life? Your choice. Quit "trying", I'm tryin, and just do it. This thread is interesting to me as I always imagined that I could never go to a bar/pub again after I quit. Simply not true. But there are definately increased dangers as Shevie/Butterfly point out. I think it depends on how you approach your quit. I really think so much of giving up is seen as a negative thing, a great battle, depriving yourself of a good friend and being strong and surviving. I had a different approach (inspired from Allen Carrs books)-I analysed smoking, b4 I gave up I thought about what I got from it - watched other people smoking very carefully. It helped me loads and I was able to sit in a bar with lots of smokers and not feel deprived. Cravings can exist for a while but they get less and less - but they only decrease from the last ciggie. Give up !!! The world will seem a better place, you'll feel better, you'll have more money and you'll no longer be a slave to nicotine. Anyway I'm trying - keep trying and succeed - you can do it !! To quit smoking is harder than to quit alcohol in my view. My quitting was so important to me that I did all I could to avoid any temptation to smoke during the first year or two. If you continue to go out and knock down a few then you are asking for a relapse. Be prepared as it will happen. Your problem is right between your ears.
