SMOKING

Cuddles,I haven't posted much but I've been watching u and praying that this time u r going to make it. I also began smoking as a way to rebel (at 12 years of age). It's true that when we quit we have to learn how to face our emotions as if we were still the age when we got addicted. Thankfully it doesn't take as long to catch up. I also smoked through all my pregnancies and wish that I had quit sooner. That goes to show how powerful this addiction is. I mean, we would never want to hurt our children. Just think, while we can't change the past, we can give our kids a healthier role model by quitting now. Keep it up, u r doing great. Psst...By the way..my cat is named cuddles..and she's a fighter...Just ask my dog. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 51 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,282 Amount Saved: $573.75 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 12 Mins: 31 Seconds: 8

What made me start smoking? It was because my mom kept accusing me of smoking and doing other things when I wasn't. I would walk down to the corner store, and a few minutes later, my mom would drive by checking on me. Finally I got so tired of it, I decided I might as well smoke, she didn't believe me any way. Defiance started my career as an addict. I smoked when I was pregnant, Four times. I smoked around my children. I smoked after my dad died of cancer. Knowing that cigarettes could kill you. I want to be able to be free from them for the rest of my life. I don't want to ever worry about when will be the next time I light up. I don't want to have anymore cravings for the nasty little cancer stick. It is really hard to stay quit, but in the end it will be worth it. I need to find the strength in myself to be able to be smoke free for the rest of my life. With your help, I am finding the strength. Hearing about other peoples struggles and success with this addiction, helps me to know that I am not alone. I want to thank everyone that is helping me. Without you I would not have the support to do this. I cant let the past depress me because what is done is done. But I can control my future and be smoke free. Thank you Joyfulspirit, Thank God the past is behind us and it is up to us to continue forward. Thank you golferman, I love reading your post, you are a very wise man. And yes, I believe I have found the right nerve, finally. The road ahead may be ruff at times, but I am better prepared, and I do not want to let myself down again. Just don't smoke Cuddles My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 15 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 316 Amount Saved: $54 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 15 Mins: 3 Seconds: 36

I was in 9th grade and got invited to a hotel party that was hosted by the cool kids in school. Beer and cigarettes were everywhere and not wanting to not fit in I lit up. It felt cool at the time, I was drinking and smoking and finally I was accepted. I was part of the "in" crowd. After that night I felt no urge to smoke again. I thought the addiction was blown way out of proportion by people that had always told me to never start smoking. The next year I'm in 10th grade and in my PE class is one of the guys I had bummed ciggaretts off of at the party the year before. He remembered me and assumed I was a smoker. I didn't want to let him down as I really needed to be in the cool crowd so the first day in class I skipped out with him to go smoke. It would become a daily ritural and before I knew it not only was I smoking during this class, I was smoking before and after and all through out the day. This would continue for 15 more years before I decided I had had enough of being Marlboros beeotch. I was only friends with this person for a couple of years throughout high school yet his help with me starting smoking led to years and years of an addiction I had wished I never started. Congrats on your quit. Even now and then I will get urges to smoke but I fight them off. Be strong in your quit and know that you are winning. Cuddles, Making that decision deep inside of ourselves is the key step in a successful quit. When that nerve is touched it seems like all of the obstacles that once stood before us just fall away. It appears that you have touched that nerve and now are finding the strength, determination, commitment and positive attitude that make up the lifelong quit. You said: "But I can control my future and be smoke free." Amen sister!! You are the only one in control of whether you smoke or not! Never forget that! Never allow yourself to be controlled by an excuse or junkie thinking! Keep on keepin' on!! Be Strong. Be Smart. Hiya cuddles, I'm so proud of you! :) You're doing an awesome bang up job staying quit!!! WOOHOOOOOOO!!! My Mom used to accuse me of everything to, lol, and that's so sad b/c I was so good and inocent as a teenager. She never learned how to trust, therefore she never taught me how to trust either. I'm still working on trust issues, lol. The 1st step is learning to trust myself :) Even with all my time in sobriety and smoke-free I have a hard time trusting myself :( UGH! Hang in there, we all have each others back in here :) Keep up the good work cuddles :) No matter what don't lite up... Keep on keepin on... Cherie
