ok...this is no fun! haven't smoked...but a couple hours ago, i made my hubby buy me a pack~~~~poor guy gets stuck in the middle! told him i would just smoke "2". took one out of the pack, but didn't light it. funny thing is...just having that one in my hands cut my anxiety in half. i know i shouldn't have done that...i know that i'm tempting fate and am sitting on the fence~~~and that it would be so easy to fall on the outside...with a lighter in my hand. the fact is...i did it and can't undo it. but i haven't smoked! thank you all so very much! the latest update is that i ate and ate, and ate some more! but i did not smoke. i also haven't thrown out the pack. i might. that's the best i can promise. it's sort of like...in another life i had...protecting my "right" to do the things i'm trying not to do. so that right is protected....but for the moment...i choose not to exercize it. i also know i'm flirting with disaster. but for now, i'll take a nap...can't smoke if i'm sleeping! you have all given me a happy heart! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 95 Amount Saved: $7.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 5 Mins: 15 Seconds: 37

Hi Jo. You really need to get rid of those smokes! If you cant bring yourself to throw them out then maybe you could get your husband to hide them somewhere - you will buy yourself some time when the craving gets bad - enough time to drink some water, take some deep breaths, go back and read why you want to quit. You are worth this quit. The hardest day is behind you. You can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are all here for you. Everytime you feel an urge, come back here and post and read and read some more. It helps. Stay strong, Skidoo

Hi Joluvs! (I hope I can call you that!) A couple of things I wanted to add: First off, I sympathize! I know how scary it was when I first hit that 'Ohcrapthisishuge!' moment right at the start. I was scared! A couple things that helped me and might help you: I kept the 'Junkie Thinking' post right in front of me all day. You can find it here: Junkie Thinking I know many of those really hit home for me. The biggest for me was: I only want one. With a response of: I have NEVER wanted only 1. In fact, I want 20-30 a day. I want them all. I also wrote a very long drawn out post both for myself and for any others on the fence. If you get really crazy, feel free to read it here: Bingo's Post A couple other things: Remember that cravings are like a wave. They have peaks and they have valleys. The peaks CAN be rough. But remember they will pass. They will subside. Make yourself a promise NOT to decide anything for 10 minutes. Just 10 minutes. I promise you by that time you will feel a lot better. Find yourself something to do with your hands and such. I decided not to worry about putting on weight in the first couple weeks of my quit. Quitting smoking is MUCH more important. Take care and keep close. We are PROUD OF YOU for choosing this. Now just BELIEVE. Jo, Today you've shown a great inner strength. On the point of failure, with cigarette and lighter in hand you still stayed quit! Perhaps not to be recommended, but then I have half a pack in my kitchen going back to the start of my quit. I know where they are; it's almost a defiant gesture to the nicodemon. I'm comfotable with the situation, but everbody is different. Stay quit! Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 92 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,775 Amount Saved: 690 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 10 Mins: 14 Seconds: 58

Dear joluvshugs No, it is not fun......but the rewards of quitting are. Hang in there. Stay close by and read and post. For me.....I would throw the smokes away. If I had cigs close by in the first couple of weeks I would have caved. LindaM is absolutely right... read and reread LindaM 's and Shevie's post. Get serious about your quit or you aren't going to have one to mess around with. It's that simple. Great job getting through your first day! And congrats for not smoking any cigs out of the pack! Now, throw it away! Get it out of your sight! Read as much as you can on this board! And wait for at least 3 more people to respond to this post before you decide anything. Have a glass of water. Eat some carrtos or sunflower seeds or a Snickers bar. But DON'T SMOKE! Congrats again, I KNOW you can do it!
