Thanks Pam alot of sense in what you said. I will make a concrete decision before i go to bed so i will be clear on the method that i have chosen, i know that i have chosen not to smoke, so now its up to me one way or the other. I only had that one real bad crave at dinner time the others were minor in comparison, i will look deep inside myself tonight (if i have the strength to battle with out aid) its great knowing that you are out there, your QUIT is inspiring, all the best jeanigirl

Jeangirl ... it matters not which road you take to get there ... what matters is that you get there. You are doing great. Do not get confused or beat yourself up. In fact reward yourself for doing such a great job of quitting. I think Rich should reward himself as well. Love that attitude Rich. Keep those quits going guys ... you are doing great. Jeangirl, With or without an NRT is okay. I have watched people quit here both ways. (Yes, I was a lurker before I joined.)I am going to use the patch and lollipops. I know that will work to break the mental habit of wanting a cig on breaks at work, or while house cleaning, or while washing the car, socializing, reading a book, watching TV, doing my hair, waking up, brushing my teeth, etc... you get the picture ;p Good luck on your second day. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

jeanigirl, If you were learning how to walk a tightrope, would you go up 50 feet in the air and walk the tight rope the first day without a net? If you had a baby infant, would you take that infant out in a boat without putting a lifejacket on? NO!!! I went cold turkey, but honestly, if I'd known then what I know now about quitting, I probably would have used an aid. It's not cheating to chew a piece of nic gum. It's not cheating to use the patches. Whatever keeps you smoke free is the right method! It's MUCH better to use an aid than to continue smoking!!! It's alright to chew the gum... don't feel bad about it. As long as you're not smoking, that's what counts!!! Crave the Quit! Rich, I see your point and yes, cold turkey does get the nicotine (or poison as you put it) out of our system faster, but NRTs do help people learn how to be smoke free while still giving them a "net" or a "life jacket" so to speak. Every person is different and every quit is different. Not everyone can go cold turkey and I don't think it's necessarily bad that jeanigirl used a quit smoking aid to help her through the day... the first few days are all about doing whatever you can to not smoke... and if that means using an aid, then I say go for it! Just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth. I'm glad that there are different opinions in the world... if we all believed the same way, then this would be a pretty boring place! :) Crave the Quit! jeanigirl, If you go more than 3 days without putting any nicotine in your body, then yes, I would consider that torturing yourself!!! :p The nicotine is supposedly gone in 3 days, so if you were to put nicotine in your body every 3 days, you would be in constant withdrawals and that would be HELL!!!!! However, if you feel like you need the assistance of the gum, then use it... that's what it's for! You're still in your first day and the nicotine isn't out of your system yet, so it's still OK to make that decision. I wouldn't wait too long, however, to decide whether or not you will use NRT. Decide now and stick with it. NRT is designed to be used for up to 12 weeks, I think. NRT helps you learn how to be a non-smoker, while still giving you nicotine so you don't go through all of the withdrawals all at once. There will still be withdrawals, of course, but they are weakened because of the nicotine in your system. Whichever method you choose is the right one, but it's important to pick a method early and stick with it. Best wishes on your quit! Crave the Quit! Ive realized that the withdrawls do suck but i found a way to look at it that may help you. If we were in a hospital bed because we were poisoned and this feeling we are now having was hapeening then would we ask the doctor for some more poison because we hated that feeling of our body healing itself? I think not and its kinda the same i think, anyways congrads a day 1. cant get anywhere w/o the first day...
