First of all, great job on the no smoking!!!!! I did the low carb 6 months after the birth of my daughter. I was able to loose 30 lbs and have kept it off. I still watch what I take in, but not 100% into since. It does work, since the person who introduced it to me lost over 75lbs. She still does it to a degree just to maintain. Carmen

Rissa, I am very happy for you and anyone who finds a method for loosing weight that is successful for them. Weight and Cigarettes...the constant fight of my life!!! However, I have to agree with Jose on this 100%. What works for one person may not work for another...just like with the Cigarettes...what works for you, may not work for me.... in fact; I'm living proof that the many diets out there...just didn't work for My system, My lifestyle. I LOVE cheesecake. I Adore Spagetti, Lasagne, Chicken Fried Steak, (thats the southern blood in me,) and a good rack of BBQ'd pork ribs! And, anyone who happens to get between me and a good Mexican Food dish....might very well get hurt as I RUN to the feeding trough! I had to find a way to make it possible for me to consume these kinds of things and still loose weight. Unlike Cigarettes, where total cessation is necessary to break the habit and the caustic effects on the body, I still HAD to eat...everyday, and several times a day. When I quit smoking, I also had to make some new adjustments because my metabolisim was about to change bigtime with nicotine and the HUNDREDS of other chemicals no long in my system. The end result is I feel FANTASTIC. What worked for me, won't necessarily work for anyone else. But I, along with many other's here, are up front and willing to share what did work for us, just in case there is just ONE other person who can use what I did to make their quit and weight issues become a positive aspect of their lives as well! If 'dieting' works for you, and you find success in reaching your goal with a certain method, more power to ya! Success is success. However, I would also measure the long term physical costs of any restrictive diet. Congrats to everyone!!! Well I too did the Atkins after the birth of my 1st daughter, almost 8 years ago. It was very easy for me as I am not much of a carb eater. But that was my problem with this diet. I initally lost over 30 pounds. Most of that being all of the pregnancy weight gain...... However, I lost it quickly and easily. But after about 4 months, I felt I could "go back to normal". Not that normal included carbs... Somehow, the weight came back. Even with the little amount of carbs that I always ate. I think that even though I didnt eat alot of carbs, once I cut htem out, I went into "ketosis", but when I weaned them back in, even the smallest amount took me out of ketosis. therefore stopping all weight loss. Anyhow, I don't agree with Atkins anymore. I do believe in the low carb diet though. But eating all that fat in the Atkins really grosses me out. And if you are a big carb eater, you might suffer side effects of this diet. And once you put carbs back into your body, watch out........... it quickly comes right back on, if you are not careful and mindful of how many carbs you are eating. Thanks for the advice guys! I have lost 7lbs but am finding it really hard to stay on it. I think I am going to have to modify the diet because I am getting grossed out eating eggs and bacon every morning :-).

I know that people have pretty strong opinions about lo-carb dieting but I just wanted to share my success. I have been an avid runner/exerciser since my quit. I assumed I didn't gain any weight because I was running so darn much...but I stepped on the scale 6 days ago and I had gained 10 pounds since my quit! Needless to say I was not happy about it. I started the Atkins diet 4 days ago and have already lost 5 pounds! I know it is probably water weight, but the diet claims that you lose fat after the initial period. Just wanted to let people know that the diet definitely works! It's going to be hard to cut bread out for awhile, but I think I can add it in later. Another good thing is that I am not hungry at all...that is a first with a diet! Good luck to all the other dieters...no matter which way you are doing it! I agree that lo-cal is probably the best. Unfortunately, what is the best for everyone else didn't really work for me :-). Is anyone else on a lo-carb diet? I would be interested to know how long people have tried it for and if they were successful because I am planning on staying on it for awhile. Thanks!!! Members, What may work for some, may not work for others. We thank you all for sharing your success stories and also encourage you to check with your doctor regarding an eating plan and exercise. They maybe able to assist you in coming up with a plan that is right for you. Exercising and eating right is always a good combo! Keep Strong, Josie ____________________ The SSC Support Team.
