doinit, Congratulations on making the decision to quit smoking. You must be very proud of yourself! If you have not already, please take time out to fill out the online quit program, you will see how helpful it is. Stay close to the site within the next couple of days/weeks, we are all here to support you in this journey. Take Care, Melanie ___________________ The SSC Support Team

It's great to hear from other newbies. I have been smoking for 27 years. I just cannot believe that I have been smoking for that long. I'm only 42, which means that I have had this habit for all of my adult life. Very wierd. I actually inhaled my first cig at age 9. I was trying to look tough because I was getting the poop kicked out of me at school. Now I picture myself at 70 with tubes up my nose.. not too tough. Anyway, I tried zyban and it made me too spacy.. I only tried it for one day, but I have a major commute and have to have my wits about me. Others seem to do just fine with it. I wish I could take it, but I don't think it will work for me. If you try it, let me know how it goes for you.

Arwensmom, what a cute story! Better give that puppy an extra pet or two...lol...You are doing great! Keep up the good work... I know how weird the "habit" thing is to get rid of...At least a couple of times a day I reach for the smokes that are no longer there...Then I panic for a moment...Then I have to remind myself that I am an ex-smoker and think about how much better I feel already! So far so good! That's why my boyfriend and I decided to quit together. We both needed to but was afraid that if either one of us smoked, the other would start up again. If I'm doinit for anyone, it would have to be Arwen. That's why I'm Arwen's mom. Arwen is my poodle puppy. She's 7 months old, but since she was five months old, she would get in my purse, pocket, table, counter anywhere I had my cigs. She would tear up the pack and take each cig in her mouth and break it with her paw. She's break it in half, take another and break it until they were all broken. Then she would dance around on her hind legs like she did something great. Maybe she did.

ok, well, as you can see, i'm new to this. I really am very determined to give up smoking, im 19 years old and have smoked for six years, its really beginning to affect my life, as i work in customer relations i feel i should really be a little more respectable of these people as im sure they dont want me stinking of cigs around them all day, but i'm finding it really difficult to do it alone as alot of people around me smoke, and i feel i need support, i really hope i can get it here and stick to my new plans!!!

phreak, I went cold turkey this time and while it was harder at first I got past the nic withdrawal rather quickly. I had a lot of light-headedness/spaciness which I now understand is related to my body clearing out the carbon monoxide. I don't know much about Zyban, but I would guess you could get quite an education on it by "Googling" it. I had heard that it had less side effects than other drugs of its type, but it could be that your body chemistry has a problem with that particular drug. When all else fails, check with your doctor and maybe think about ways to get around the problem (take a week off work, commute on mass transmit, etc), quitting is too important. Good luck.

8 days down, I can't believe it. It really is getting easier. This site has been invaluable so far and I know it will continue to be.

Stoppin, actually my wife is a smoker. We have enabled each other many times before but this time we just realized that we can't do it at the same time (for the sake of our marriage). Me first, then I'll have to support her. I've been telling her how much the support all here have given has helped. I'm sure she'll be on board as well. And yes, she is great. I consider myself blessed to have her in my life as well as two amazing daughters. I will tell her that you said it though, sometimes I don't think she believes me when I say it. Brent, no prob. I knew what you meant, I didn't mean to sound defensive. I just hadn't really thought about anything other than being around to see my kids grow up and have time to really enjoy being married to my wife. Getting off (and staying off) the smokes should add years back on to my life, hopefully they will be the golden years. Thanks again to all of you for the support! I am in to day 5 now and it really is getting easier each day past day 3. I even had a couple high stress business calls already today and got through them alive. I am really starting to think that I can do it this time!

Today is day 4 and it was a little better than yesterday. I wish I wasn't so busy as more sleep and less stress would make it easier still. If I can make it to the weekend my wife has promised to let me sleep in and take it easy...2 more days?! Thanks to you all for the support. It really does help to know that I'm not alone in my struggle. Quote: "Hi doinit4mygirls, how about doinit4myself! " Brent, thanks. I guess ultimately I should say I am doing for myself, but I really want to see my daughter's grow up and become the wonderful people I know they will. It's the picture of my wife and daughters that will mostly get me through the hard times. Thanks to all for the positive comments, I am sure the support will help.
