anyone who has used patches!!!

I have been doing pretty well the last week or so. The urges did still come but not as fierce and went away quick. I was feeling really good about it. Until last nigth I changed to patch 2 and was nervous I dreamed about cigs and I havent dont that since the first 2 weeks of my quit. I dont know if it is in my mind and I am bringing this on or am I going through more withdrawals like the begining as I wean off the nicotine. I hope this is not going to be like the first three weeks I dont think I can go through that again. anyone who has done the patches I would love to hear from. I was worried about that too. I had two hard days when I switched from the 14 to the 7, similar but not as severe as my first week without cigarettes. Like mini-hell week. When I went off the patch completely, I was nervous and jittery and had a headache, but the cravings were still pretty low. I'd say I had one or two semi-bad craving days, but nothing like quitting at first. I was almost able to concentrate. The first step down was harder than the second, and quit-week was harder than anything that followed. The depression of the fourth week was tough, but I didn't have major cravings. And that, too, passed. Now I'm patch-free and smoke free too, and I feel GREAT! One of the things that helped me was knowing I could go back on the patch if I needed to, but wanting to get through the days without doing so. Good luck! Adrienne

Hi morningglory, this will day 3 on step 3 for me today, i havn't realy noticed any difference each time i stepped down. I think sonetimes it can be psychological, if we are expecting it to be worse it might feel that it is. Even if you feel bad for a while it will pass, stay strong and wait for it to pass. I'm using the patch but I haven't stepped down yet. The patch deliveres nicotine but not like a cigarette does. The patch you started with was delivering nicotine over a 24 hour period, not in hugh bursts like a smoke would, so you alreadu have gone through the worst of the withdrawal I would say. If you step down and you start to have trouble, talk to your doctor. They can give you something to deal with the anxiety for the first few days and make it a lot easier. You're in the process of weaning yourself off a chemical that's highly addictive. You knew it wasn't going to be easy, but you know you can do it. Focus on that and don't worry about the next few days. They'll take care of themselves, just don't smoke whatever you do. Don't give in or up! Good luck - I'm pulling for you here in NH. you will adjust to the lower amount of nicotine in 2-3 days.....in the meantime, try to think positive....it gets BETTER the longer you go without smoking. Sure there are triggers and even cravings....but they are no way near like the first week. Remind yourself of all the GOOD things about not smoking....be sure to get a reward program set up. If your dreams get intense and your sleep is interrupted then you could take the patch off at night....but I never wanted to do this, cause early morning was when I really craved a smoke! However you handle this, whatever the symptoms are.....remind yourself that they WILL pass.....and lung desease from smoking will NOT. Hang tough....you are doing a great job. Morning, Did you sleep with your patch on? A good tip is to take it off before bed, you will notice less vivid dreams. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
