Hey Tirala,

Big Potter fan here as well! Its funny, I dont know what to say to you anymore cos everything is already in The Books!! If your interested I will send you a You Tube link with interviews between Oprah and JK! Personally, I love them but since we are single moms who have not YET discovered their talents... I am just jealous! Tell me/us how you are, please?

Hi, thanks for the answers!

Yes, perfectionism is definitly a problem for me. I know that, but it's really hard to do something about it. For example: I have to do my bachelor's thesis, it's the last thing before finishing my studies which will be graded and I already have really good grades - so no matter which grade I will get, the final grade will be really good. So I ONLY have to do it, there isn't really a way to fail except if I do nothing.

And what do I do? Of course, procrastinating, because I want it to be perfect. Yay! ;)

Well, except for the bachelor's thesis, I think, I'm really starting to do better. Just little changes, but changes! A few in behavior, and many in recognizing why I do what I do, how I can change and so on.

And, what I'm really proud of, is, that I created sort of a token program for myself which really helps me to DO domething, to get a little stuff done without being overwhelmed.

And I give myself points for doing things like getting the trash out, cleaning a room fifteen minutes long, calling someone I don't like to call but have to, getting up at the time I wanted to get up, doing this program, and so on.

And when I have 500 points, I'll buy myself an new book (Harry Potter 6 :D I've already read it, but that was a while ago since I have only 1-5, and I'm really looking forward to buy and read it).

I'm really glad that I found this program, I does help a lot!

Hi Tirala, it's good to see you back!  Welcome. I hope you can take to heart what Ashley said about not being so hard on yourself.  Seriously!  You are here.  You posted honestly and you seem to be quite insightful about what you are doing (or not doing).

You may already know this, but it bears repeating ...  procrastination is a by-product of perfectionism.  When we place perfectionistic demands and expectations on ourselves we either have to do (whatever it is) perfectly or we cannot bear to face it at all.  My daughter struggles with this and beats herself up for not getting stuff done but it does seem to help when I remind her it's the perfectionism getting in her way.

Be gentle with yourself... k?

Tirala,

Don't be so hard on yourself. People miss appointments and procrastinate getting new prescriptions ALL the time. I'm sure your doctor won't even notice and if he does he will not judge you as irresposible.  The important piece is that you are NOW following up on it.

Try not to let your concerns about what other people think get in the way of what is really important - your health. What you think is really what matters.

Hi Tirala,

Welcome to the forums. I had the same problem with the antidepressant, it also affected my sleep. My doctor prescribed me a new med to deal with this side effect. It took some trial and error but it worked.

Take advantage of the CBT program of DC because it is very well designed and helpful.
Hi eleveno,

I think, trying a new AD/other medication is a good choice, but I'm scared to go the doctor again as I just didn't go to him when I should have gone to get a new prescribtion. I know, that's not very wise, but as always, I just delayed it and now, I feel as if he would see me as an irresponsible person, when I go to him again.

So, as procrastination is my "thing", I haven't done much on the program here, but I'm starting again right now.

Thank you all for the nice welcome!

Hi,

thank you for the tips!

Yes, I have a lot going on right now, but as I'm a single mom and have to take care of my child, not trying to get better is just not an option!

Hi Tirala,

Welcome to the group! Thank you for sharing a bit about yourself. Your English is very good!

Posting in the support group while working on the program is a good idea. If you are lacking in motivation or have any questions please feel free to post them here.  Take your time with you program. Each session takes about a week to complete but it can take longer.  Start on session one and make goals for yourself for when you plan to complete other sessions. Be sure to reward yourself when you complete sessions and/or achieve goals.

It sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now so good for you for making time to take control of your health. That takes strength!

I look forward to reading more from you and getting to know you better.

Take care,

I'd like to introduce myself as I think that with doing this, it'll be more likely that I will follow the program and actually do the homework.

First of all, I'm from Germany, so please excuse me if my English is not perfect! There aren't many online programs for treating depression in German, I actually found only one and, well, I don't really like it, so I'm trying this one.

My name is Anna and I'm 22 years old, have a 5-year-old daughter and I'm studying psychology (yes - what a coincidence ;)). I'm doing my bachelor thesis right now (Or I'm trying, I'm procrastinating and have just such a lack of motivation!  It makes me really angry and sad as I'm pretty good at studying, but right now, it just doesn't really work.), but after completing it, I'm going to change my subject of studying to Computational Engineering.

Well, my doctor told me, that I've propably MDD. He prescribed me antidepressants, but with them, I wasn't able to sleep. I'd really like to do a psychotherapy, but one has to wait 6-12 months before getting a place as there aren't enough psychotherapists here. So, as I really need to change something, I'm trying this program an I'm hoping, it will work.

If you have questions about me - please ask! :) (And if you see language mistakes I make, don't hesitate to correct me, I like English and I'd like to get better at it!)
