I started practising Vipassana (Mindfulness) Meditation last year, to see if it would help with the depression. Most of the meditations end with the words 'May you be Well, and Happy'. I like those words a lot, which is why I chose them for my screen name. I guess is more about what they convey. Wishing someone to be well and happy, no matter what, and without expecting anything in return. I guess that's where unconditional love begins. I don't know, but I'd like to think so.

As for the picture, is the poster from the movie 'Happy Go Lucky'. I loved this movie so much. Is about a girl who stays so positive about life, no matter what... I am not like that, I'm more on the 'gloomy' side... lol. But certainly, I wish one day I will lighten up like her, and won't take life so seriously

wildwildlife = "Wild Wild Life" by the Talking Heads.

The title helps me remember to keep my standards high; the song itself reminds me of how happy I can be when I'm traveling.

I especially like these lyrics at the beginning:

"Speak up! I can't hear you / here on this mountaintop / I got some wild, wild life"

For me, it's an easy way to remind myself that I'm the "master of my fate... captain of my soul".

My avatar is from my summer job in 2006 - I helped new students get acquainted to our university, and we had to make door decorations for the dorms. 2006 proved to be a very pivotal year for me - coming out, changing career direction.. all sorts of "good"/crazily intense stuff.

I think I have found an avatar and signature that represents an archetype for me of strength and character. I'm not sure I'll keep it. Just trying it on for size. I don't want to see myself as whimpy and insignificant. Not only is that negative, it's also not really true. I was searching the internet for something suitable and found the Egyptian Goddess Nut. Her name alone caught my attention

I chose the particular image (with permission) from artist Thalia Took. I love the bold colors and sun in her belly symbolizing new life as well as creativity in general. She is known as Mother of the Sky, She Who Protects, She Who Holds a Thousand Souls... she is often depicted covered in stars and arched protectively over the earth. She is known for her incredible kindness. She is a barrier keeping outer chaos separate from the ordered earth she protects.

The myths of the goddess Nut instruct us to never give up our hold on our precious dreams. She reminds us to persevere and to accept the help of others when we need it.

I guess she appeals to me on many levels and I am hoping that by identifying with her I might start to think of myself differently... more positive, stronger... and start to acknowledge the strengths and characteristics that I already have and see reflected in her story.

Feel free to address me as ~mnut for the time being or just NUT if you prefer, hmmm...maybe Acorn?

In keeping with the main thread of staying positive (or becoming that way for some of us ... me for one) I am rethinking my avatar & screen name. My sig (~m) is something I've used elsewhere too. The tilde (~) represents my figurative spine.... weak and wobbly, or wishy-washy. The small "m" is reflective of insignificance... and when I'm feeling invisible it just drops to "n". I am beginning to see that as a negative way to describe myself (even if no else knows what it means to me). And the picture of the beagle puppy ... she is totally cute, but she also looks defeated and defenseless... spineless even. I have decided to go with a stronger, more positive image...
