Success, but still scary

Hi Geekzilla, Haven't really been in your situation fully but have felt some of what you are feeling though the view of my body that I had when i was younger was distorted. I had some anxiety about eating in front of others though I no longer have this now. I still have the depression and self loathing when shopping for clothes though(I regard myself as hidious and find it hard to get clothes that look right or fit on my upper body). Nothing as bad as you feel but I do understand though not sure any advice I can give will be good. Glad to hear that you are feeling excited about going to the wedding. About your anxiety and being judged - it will take alot of work and strength to get through it but you can decide whether to let this get in the way and spoil your day/weekend or whether you are going to choose to not allow these bad feelings to get in the way. I guess the key is to tell yourself that you have a choice about how you think about the reactions of others. If they judge you negatively(which may or may not be happening) then they are losing out on getting to know/interacting with the person you are. Can you make a list of positive qualities about you(ask your boyfriend to help you or friends)? These are what people worth bothering about will be seeing not the fact that you are overweight. I know that when we are depressed it is hard to see any positives about ourselves so i know this is not an easy task. How far are you through the program? Some of the tools are really useful. Good luck. Moth

Hi Geekzilla, It is great to hear that you have a new event to look forward to. It is not unusual to have the apprehensions that you are feeling. Try to use the online program here to help you achieve your goals for this special event. Keep us posted, Casey ________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team

I am attending a wedding this year, it's a major trip and I am excited, because I get to see a place I haven't been before. But, (isn't there always a but?) I am freaking out because I won't know any of the people at the wedding other than my boyfriend and the groom. This scares me! I have a weird thing about eating in front of strangers, so the meal will be tough. Really, it's not just that, I am so scared of being judged because I am overweight. I also have to shop for something to wear, which is painful. Has anyone dealt with this before? What did you do? How did you manage? Thanks for any advice.
