I'm reading two books at the moment. One is called "Finding Peace" by Dr. Charles Stanley. He also gives sermons on the Christian radio station at 8:30 am. Another book I'm reading is called, "The Purpose Driven" by Rich Warren. They both have to do with Christianity. But I think there are alot of things in the book which might help non Christians as well. The book I was referring to earlier is the "Finding Peace". Another book I'm planning to read is "Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda". I'll let you know how that book is. Please let me know if there's anything I can help you with.

Hi emky, It's hard to talk to family about how bad it feels alot of times. My family don't really know how badly I feel or even that I have moderate depression. I've taken xanax for about little over a month for my panic/anxeity attacks. But as I started opening up to God, I decided I didn't want to be dependent on any medication. Which is the same reason I'm fighting so hard not to take anything for my depression. It's been a hard battle after battle. And I don't know if I'm even winning. But I know I'm not loosing. I read in one chapter of a book I'm currently reading which said, "you have the power to control what you think." It seems so.. obvious yet.. suprising. Ever since I read that sentence, every time I get negative or painfull thoughts, I repeat that line. Then I force myself to think about something else which might make me happy or a task I need to get accomplished. Before I know it, the bad thoughts have fled my mind for the time being. I'm not saying it would work for everyone. But I just wanted to share something that has worked for me and hope that it might help some of you out there as well. I think it's best to let out your feelings one way or another. Most people let it out by talking about it. Some people hold themselves back at times because they feel like they're just "whinning". But it's not. Even if it is, so what? We're in pain and if "whinning" is what's needed to help us get better, why not? I don't think I've been much help to you. But I hope you take in some comfort in knowing there are people out there that understands your pain and frustration.

emky, Thanks for sharing your story with us today. You will find that there is tons of support and encouragement on our site. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to post them here in the support group or e-mail us at support@paniccenter.net. Please browse around the site and use our tools located at the left hand side of the screen. Here you will find our Depression Test. This test is not a diagnostic tool and is not a replacement or substitute for a physician's advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. This will help better assess your situation and perhaps re-evaluate your medication. If you continue to need extra support our Support Department is always available 24/7. Thanks for visiting us and we hope to hear from you again soon. Take care Josie

Hi, everyone. I'm new to this so bear with me. I am a single mom with two children (girls). For the past few months I have felt very down. I feel that I can't handle anything anymore. Getting out of bed is a major effort for me, along with dealing with a five and thirteen year old. I feel very lonely. I have been to my doctor and he has given me Effexor. I have been on it before and it worked fine, but now I have been on it for approx. 5 weeks and I still feel terrible. I feel that I am failing my children. They need a person that is happy and able to provide for them but right now I can barely take care of my self. My family has helped some but they have always thought that once I go to the doctor, start taking medication, start sleeping better I do fine. I wish I could talk to them about all of my fears, but for whatever reason I can't. Does anyone have any advice on where I could find some resources to stop my negative thinking and start feeling better? Thank you
