Little scared

Hi Mallorie...I have been taking an antidepressant for 18 years. When I first got sober, yes I am an alcoholic, the symtoms surfaced and I was diagnosed. That was the best thing that could have happened to me.I stayed sober for 10 years until my ex walked out on the boys and I.Being sober and taking medication still did not prepare me for that and I started drinking again. Fortunatly I stopped again and have been sober now 3 years.I guess what I am getting around to saying is it takes more than sobriety and medication. It takes regular visits to a professional to stay on top of our illness.I am 49 and now learning relationship skills I never properly developed. It is tough, and yes,I get scared sometimes, but it is something I must learn if I hope to have a quality relationship with someone.Old dogs like me must sometimes learn new things if I am to progress in life.Hope that helps you some.I will be glad to answer any questions as truthfully as I can.

Hi Mallorie, You didn't say what you were afraid of about depression but I don't think its such a good idea to read too many different sites on depression. There are some good ones out there, this site being one of them of course, that will give you the correct information about depression, but there are also some horrible ones out there. And if you read up on medications for sure it will scare you, because people often only tell their bad experiences. I have had good results with depression, have had depression most of my life, now in my 40's and living a good life, still taking my medication, probably forever LOL, but hey if it helps me lead a normal life, then why not? If you want to ask more about it, this kind of a forum is good to do that. It is controlled by professionals unlike some other groups. Please don't be afraid, and if you need to know anything just ask, I will be checking in again. I just signed up to post last week.

Hey Malorie, I'm a little scared. I haven't been diagnosed, I'm a little scared to hear what my problem is. Lately, I've been absorbed in not so positive situations (ie smoking cloves and drinking) which I know only makes matters worse but that will to not partake is nowhere to be found. It's not until I'm wasted that I have a tendancy to get down on my self and freaked that I may die of lung cancer or drive my career into the ground. I'm trying to stoke myself out and get to the gym, starting with yoga (the easy stuff) and hope to stop wasting what little I have to offer the world on hang overs and not wanting to deal. It's wacked when you know you have the potential but your will has slipped making you wobble along the tight rope of life.
