Do you mean that you play the devil's advocate only, when you're analyzing a situation? If this is the case, perhaps focus on listing the pros too, and not just the cons?

I have trouble recognizing when I am saying something negative. I think it is just "Concerns". If I say something positive about an issue that concerns me, masking a possible problem, then I feel like i am not being truthful. The listener hears this as negative. It's difficult to get feed back from the listener, until it's too late.

Hi, Dan. Welcome. You ask a very good question. If there were any easy tricks, I'd give them to you. One thing you can do is to make a big effort to be aware of when you are negative or critical. If you can catch that thought and put a mental STOP sign up, then you can substitute another behavior. For instance, we all know that encouragement and praise go a lot further with a child than criticism and fault-finding. If you can find something good to say instead, you may "nourish" a positive outcome rather than feed a downward trend. I don't know if this applies since you didn't give any example, but another trick is to worry about the things that are yours, and leave to the others what is theirs. Hope this helps.

I have been wandering around the net trying to find out if there is a way to change half empty attitude to half full. I have been charactorized as being too critical, wanting things to be perfect. This has been going on for many years and I'd like to change, just don't quite know where to go to do that. Any ideas??

Welcome. Do you have negative thoughts? Do you have them more when you're feeling blah or depressed? Want to get out of that place? This is the forum to exchange ways to do it.
