Tweaking relaxation

Thanks for your comments. I wonder if anyone knows what to do when triggers lose their effect? I felt disappointed today, when my exercise regimen declined, as I explained to a physiotherapist. She suggested using a band or watch to remind myself. Maybe I'm being hard on myself, on the other hand. The day started poorly, since the toilet overflowed, and I couldn't decide how to get to the place, and was almost late...but I did it!

During the mindfullness based stress reduction course I took last year, the following story was given:  A family doctor who worked very hard had noticed he was having trouble relaxing, he was always looking at his watch all the time, had a short temper, etc.  Even his patients noticed these changes.  The doctor was talking to a friend about this, and the friend told the doctor to find something to remind him to relax.  So, the doctor took green stickers and put it over the face of his watch, on the door to his exam room, in his office, etc.  Whenever the doctor looked at one of these stickers, he would take a few deep breaths and relax his shoulders, and calm himself.  He soon found he was more relaxed, better able to treat his patients, and was overall much happier.

This sounds similar to what you described.

I completely forgot about this, anyway. Today I finally figured out how the breadmaker's timer works, so I can actually wake to the smell of fresh bread, but I don't like the idea of these fruit flies flitting about, and I'm a messy cook.

Sounds like mindfulness.

A book describing how to build relaxation into the day, suggested some meditative group would ring a bell periodically, and everyone would pause for a a few breaths of relaxation. We have, but ignore these rituals. eg. remember recess? It was suggested that we adapt this, by taking 3 breaths everything we paused touching a doorknob, or whatever could be tailored to our lifestyle
