Welcome prairiedaisy,

I am glad you found us. It sounds like you have already found a lot of positive strategies to help. This is great! I think CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy) is piece you may be missing. You mention your brain convinces you to be scared. This is true, fortunately you can change this with CBT. It takes consistent effort and homework but it is effective. CBT is the most evidence based treatment for anxiety disorder. This program is based on CBT and will work you through a basic program. Have you had a chance to get started yet? Any questions so far?

Hi there nice to meet you. I have a similar dread, thinking something is wrong with me. Mine comes from things that have been wrong with me in the past and I feel like "when is the next shoe going to drop." So I am always in a constant state of anxiety along with PTSD from medical unprofessionalism. That being said I have found a lot of hope in meditation, music, relaxation, therapy, and as of this morning researching accupressure. A lot videos can be found on youtube to get started with really basic pressure points. (This is coming from me a large, shaved head, bearded, biker looking, conservative, hard headed man LOL. I never considered myself a hippie either, but I have come to find out they have some really good ideas LOL.) Panic and anxiety have opened me up to a lot of new ideas. Everything is worth trying, taking what works for us individually, and letting the rest go.

Thank you for your welcomes.

Cardio tech, I feel the exact same way.  Now that I've learned what a panic attack is, that it's not going to kill me, they are survivable.  It's when something twigs in my head I get super anxious and it's lasts for hours, or sometimes for 3 or 4 days.  I often feel short of breath and dizzy for hours at a time.  I really convinced myself I was sick but it must be in my head.  Saturday I was anxious all day, had trouble sleeping, Sunday - completely freakin' fine.

I do feel like I've turned a corner recently and accepted the fact it's anxiety and not a health issue.  Most of the time I believe that.

Adult colouring seems to be the new thing, I know so many people doing that!

I find the general anxiety and thinking I'm dying (my fear is heart problems) worse than panic attacks.  I wish to GOD my anxiety was situational (ie driving, small spaces).  I think I could deal with those things better than I'm dealing with my general and health anxiety.

I try to keep myself occupied.  Exercise, yoga, reading...I've even recently bought an adult colouring book.  Some days are okay....other days (like today) are not.

Good luck with the program.

Hello Prairie Daisy,

You are not alone in seeking answers and in trying to gain mastery over your anxiety.  I wish I could say I've found all the answers, but that hasn't happened.  I think it is a journey where we learn things along the way.  Sometimes we get sidetracked before getting back on the path.  There seem to be some helpful people and tools on this website that have been assisting me along the way.  I hope you find the same.

Best,
Melanie

Dropping in to say hello.

I'm a 30 year old female.  I have always been a worrier person but had my first panic attack out of the blue 13 months ago.  Since then I've developed anxiety.  At least, I'm pretty sure I have.  Some days, I'm pretty sure I'm dying of something, other days, I'm pretty sure it's all in my head and it's anxiety.

I have been trying various organic type methods for several months (aromatherapy, yoga, herbal supplements and teas) although I'm not a real hippie person.  I'm just willing to try anything.  My doctor recently gave my lorazapam after a particular bad panic attack but I haven't taken any.

What's really getting to me, is the general anxiety which seems to have no cause.  I have been good for 9 days, felt very good and today I was anxious.  No situation, nothing should have "set me off" and all of a sudden I start feeling anxious and I can't shake it all day.  I still managed to have a semi normal day (yoga and chamomile tea really help) but my hour before bed are always the worse.  My anxiety symptoms change (they're tricky like that) but in general my head convinces me I have some horrible illness and I'm dying.

Anyway, that's my story.  I did week one of the panic centre program last week and I'm excited to continue with that.
