Needs versus Wants

Red,
Mom is irritated by people visiting her home, just like I might have felt shy about anxiety.

My discovery is that I seem to be less like that!

Thank you Red

Hugs,

Did you mean: Don't Wish Help or Was that, Don't Want Help? And Who do you mean by Some? If you don't mind me asking. Please Clarify?  I am a bit confused..

If you are typing with all ten fingers my advice is to stop and type with the eraser on the end of a pencil. First thing you notice is that you bend mostly at the elbow instead of the wrist which locks up easier. There is far less tension in the wrist and fingers. Of course since I use the touch pad instead of a mouse which is hard on the wrist also a pencil in my hand is not a problem. Most of the time I type one finger and I'm quite fast at it.

Tai Chi sounds like fun!  Hope it will be offered for you and fill us in on your experience! Vincenza, Health Educator

The catch is that some don't wish  help!

I'd like to be able to sleep more deeply, for a sleep, and will start by unwinding and reflecting on your question.  I do love to "window shop" the wonderful courses on the coursera.org website, which look fascinating!

The problem is that it involves keyboarding, and my hands hurt now by the end of the day, since I've been keyboarding for decades, as well. I actually am reluctant to enrol, but am going to take Tai Chi this weekend, if the course runs.

Hi Hugs,

I'm glad to hear you were able to have help in caregiving and give yourself an afternoon off.  It sounds like it is very needed and well deserved.  Does your situation allow you to have more regular help?
What are some things on your 'want' list?  Can you find a way to incorporate them - perhaps with the help of members on this site..
Hope you're enjoying your evening!

Hugs, it good to hear that you were given some help with care giving and were able get a little respite yesterday..I know how important respite is for a caregiver as I was one a long time ago. I am hoping your sibling starts doing this on a regular basis. I know if I would have had respite on a regular basis it would have made a huge difference for me..and I am sure I would be in much better health now..Even if you don't go out when they come just having someone to take the responsibilities and load for a couple of hours helps a lot..

I think needs versus wants were one in the same thing for me when I was a caregiver..I wanted and needed so many basic things. Like sleep for one and peace of mind that the person I was caring for could be cared for by
someone else even if just for a little while. The list goes on and on. Relaxing in a chair with a good book, Shopping for groceries without having to worry about rushing back..Just lots of things and everything..

Most people take their freedom for granted and have not concept at all about all the sacrifices that are make or all the hard work that goes into being a caregiver..I think it is one of those things in life that person has to have to done,  before they can  really appreciate all that goes into it.

My wish for you is peace, rest and more freedom..I will be praying that you get what you want and need soon.
Know that I understand and will be thinking about all that you do as a caregiver.

I wonder what people define as needs versus wants?

I'm planning the fall, and don't wish to overwhelm myself with more than one activity, since the summer was stressful.  Last week, I found I'm having trouble sleeping now, with caregiving concerns.

To me, what I want never ends, but what I need is basic, and I'd go out of balance without the essential "needs".  Unfortunately, needs might be missing for some time from my life, as I've dropped a lot of things like going out at night to a lecture, and being out another time weekly.  As a result, I feel isolated.

Yesterday was different as I did a number of things, and felt free since a sibling did the caregiving for an afternoon.
