Quote of the Day Part Two

11 years ago 0 6252 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Well I disagree with this quote, and I'm not even taking Tramadol today.

Life is too precious to waste it pushing yourself to do something that can be done at your own pace. This is different from avoidance of course. Anything worth doing is worth doing right, which you won't do if you are doing it at all costs et al.

Achieving a tiresome labour is rewarding but the reward is the same whether you push or not, except pushing causes stress. Today I'm fixing the back on my electronic chair. At least I think I am. I will if all goes well, but if it doesn't I'll do something else. The chair will get done in time.

Of course this is just me trying to avoid stress. If you are type "A" and thrive on it then go for it and "Happy Heart Attack".

Davit.

PS. Sunny, no I'm not grumpy today.

This quote reminded me of taking things one day at a time, instead of looking at the big picture.  Taking tiny baby steps, toward something, gets you to your goal.  The other day, I was thinking about how much I like to plan everything out and know everything, but a startling thought came to mind and I believe it was God saying it to me.  That the big picture is too much to handle.  If I really did know everything that was going to happen, I would probably be paralyzed with fear and think, "How am I going to do that?, How am I going to get here or there?".  Breaking things down into more manageable steps, like we learn in the exposure session, is how we do it.  Like a recovering alcoholic, not drinking for 24 hours is much more do-able than thinking he cannot drink for the rest of his life; that's overwhelming.  I need confidence that I can take care of myself.  In order to do that I need to take baby steps toward that goal.  When my daughter moves to CA, and I can't see her every two weeks, it's a catalyst for me to start my own path in life and begin my journey.  She has her life and path and I have mine.  I have to let my old life go, it doesn't exist anymore.  When I go back to Florida, I am going to stay, regardless of anxiety and insomnia knowing that I will eventually adjust and feel comfortable and safe again.  I'm going to volunteer for a couple of hours somewhere and then work a couple of hours somewhere and build my confidence up that I can take care of myself.  If I think about my whole entire future, it's scary, but one foot in front of the other each day will make it do-able.

Having once decided to achieve a certain task, achieve it at all costs of tedium and distaste. The gain in self confidence of having accomplished a tiresome labor is immense.

Davit,
Those markers which are left, when they're physical, don't bother me as much as the emotional scars

I just love language, it allows me and anyone else that wants to, to say a lot and mean nothing at the same time.

What is success? To me it is a whole lot less than most people but still more than most. (see what I mean.) Actually what I mean is that what I manage is good enough for me so that is success.
Reaching my full potential every day is tiring and leaves me grumpy. This isn't success is it. It is actually stupid.
Personal excellence? What the h..l is that? by throwing in the word personal, excellence becomes anything from watching TV to climbing Mountains.

Sheeeet, Just get up every day and aim a little higher than you want and be happy with what you get. Only you will know if you are successful and the rest don't care, They are too busy trying to be someone else.
And it is a shame because so many succeed at it and that is where the trouble starts.

Davit

Ps Good thing I have spell check, Tramadol is messing with my mind. No pain, but no brain.

Hugs, we have all been stepped on a few times, it is when they squat on my head and leave a marker behind that bothers me.

The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential... these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.

You have a number of boxes in your brain where you can store failures. Which one you use dictates how it will effect you in the future. I prefer to store it in the experiences box rather than the worry box. And you can move it, so if you did store it in the worry box you can move it to the experience box or the just funny box.
Of course this doesn't work if you really want to worry about it.

Every failure is a step to success.
- William Whewell

The toolbox's quote today continued on this theme of reframing failure, which I considered as I was driving one day.  It's just like a side step, in the grand scheme, unless someone gets seriously harmed, i suppose...

Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.

I was able to assemble a chair this morning, and this is starting my day on the right foot

Hi Shari and everyone!

In answer to "how am I" I'd say like that blues song..."sometimes I'm up, sometimes I'm down".  Careful about that bun, before the vegetarians see the pic?   I just brought in a chair, but there are no assembly instructions with it...off to the internet to download them and then....

Hi Hugs,

How are you today?  I changed the avatar for you to give you a smile.  In the States, we affectionately call Dachshunds "wiener dogs", because they are hot dog shaped.  So, I thought this picture was cute :)

I liked your quote for the day, it made me feel better about making more than one mistake.  I thought it was a bad thing, but it turns out that it's good to learn from it and try again.

Thanks!

Shari
