What Makes a Quit Stick?

Thanks Unhooked. You sound like a wise person to me. I will try to look at it that way also. I quit today!!

Good for you. I think you will find this site very helpful. I almost have a week in smoke free and after a 47 year habit and several trys at quiting, I am pretty proud of myself. I feel much better today than I did when I quit. I've cryed alot but I haven't smoked. NOT ONE PUFF EVER I just keep repeating that and telling myself that smoking is not an option. Find you a saying and repeat it to yourself every time you think about smoking..it will help. It is working for me!! Today is a week for me

I made it the first week!! Good times and bad times. The craving this morning seems to be stronger than yesterday.Maybe its the demon in my head not wanting to celebrate.I'm going to anyway. I made an appointment for a manicure and a pedicure. Sleepless nights have left me restless.Tomorrow will be better. I will not smoke. MY DAY TO QUIT

Hi Mace,Your right it is a big change. I had smoked for 47 yrs and I am free a week today. It was also my choice this time to quit. The Doctor told me to quit and I didn't. I couldn't be around my grandchildren and smoke and I chose smoking. I tryed to quit several times just to start back. My life is a mess. I am not happy and I feel bad all the time. The only thing I have control over is me so I figure I should start with smoking and go from there. This last week has been miserable at times but so were the ones before it. Smoking is not going to solve my problems. It only makes them worse. It makes me feel like the addict I am. It's not easy but to go back is just as tedious as to go forward. I'm choosing to go forward. I'm glad you are too!! Taking the bull by the horns ! - Baring my soul....

Hey Sam, Isn't this a great way to be able to tell your story and learn that everyone has your problem. I too was from a disfunctional family. I am currently seperated from a husband of 44 years because addiction has taken over our lives. Taking the demon by the horns is what I am trying to do also.I've been trying to figure out where to start. Each time I grab a horn I seem to get slammed to the ground. This time I am trying to fix me. One minute at a time I am not smoking. I am one week free today. Maybe we can make this journey together. Hi AbbyG, You are doing good! I am on day 7 now and it is getting better. I thought this mornings cravings rated right up there with the first day but they didn't last as long. I can already tell a difference in my ability to breathe better.Read the site. work the program and hang tough. N.O.P.E. say it over and over. It's working for me and it will work for you too!! Who's watching?

Great subject to think about. I have grandchildren who were watching me closely and were saying to me that I was killing myself. The generation I grew up in was totaly blind to the dangers of tobacco.I doubt that thier were 400 additives in a cig when I first smoked but addictive just the same. The tobacco Industry lied before congress about this. The public in general and especially the children are well aware of the dangers of tobacco. Yet, I read that more and more teen agers are starting the habit. The tobacco industry will give samples away at concerts to addict our children and put money in thier pocket. Yes alot of people are watching. Some wanting us to quit and others wanting us to buy thier products. I think the anger I feel about this is a great modivation to my quit.I had been sneaking around for some time before I finally quit. I was only fooling myself. Every one around me knew.OHH OHH that smell, can't you smell that smell? I can smell it a block away now, but it wont be comming from me!! Talk To Me

Hey Bear, I may be one of the whiners you are talking about. I tryed to quit(seriously tryed) several times. Each time I would set my quit date a little furter down the road. It's like the old saying "When the student is ready to learn the Teacher will appear" When I found this site I quit the day after I logged in. We never know when the time is right for us, must less someone else. I'm so glad I am not smoking and I want to incourage anyone even considering a quit to go ahead and try. Talk To Me

Hey Bear, I'm new at this and don't have all the searching down yet but I would be enterested in knowing how long you smoked and what kind of music you like to listen to. Some where I hear a country song in your "do it or shut up" attitude.LOL My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/4/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 160 Amount Saved: $32.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 2 Mins: 47 Seconds: 10
