Small Steps

Small steps, big steps, what is so important is that we are all doing them each day. Even choosing to get out of bed is a plus :)

I did my first day and I was ok. Nothing too exciting, just concentrated on working, being present. Now I can imagine many other challenges and responsibilities that go with my job, but I will approach with a one day at a time philosophy.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Affirmations and Negative Influences

I am still reading an amazing book by Susan Jeffers called Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway!

The book and this website have taught me about positive thinking.

I thought it would be encouraging to suggest you all to post your favourite affirmation.

Also, I have expanded this idea and am reducing those negative influences. I have unsubscribed from various current newsletters, stopped watching some crime shows etc. I find that as I reduce those negative images I find myself becoming super sensitive. I guess I have re-sensitized myself!

So here goes:

My favourite affirmation is:

"I am breaking through old patterns and moving forward with my life"

Your turn :)

Seeing my new doctor today causing fear!

I too worry about the unknown. It can be so frustrating because if I am not careful, I ruin the now moments. Like this morning, I am worrying about work so I am not present in the moment with my daughter. So I had to just focus on what I am doing now.
I think this can help sometimes for the worriers.
It might be good to write down a few questions to prepare though. I usually take a list to my doctor in case I go blank.
Keep positive. :)

why do i cry so much??

I cry too. I think I cried about 3 times this week and it is Wednesday! I think crying can be good, I know I always feel better after. But it is a good idea to go with your gut feelings and be held for a bit. Even if it is only in our minds/imagination.

I didn't have a loving relationship with my mother so I try to imagine what it would have been like to have been held etc. It is kind of bittersweet in a way but it can help.

Work Issues

I can totally sympathize with another post about bosses. I didn't want to take over the other post with my added issues so I thought I had better do a separate discussion.

My boss is cold and unreadable. I noticed that in the interview. I am usually good at reading people but with her it is different.

I started working in January part time. I don't mind the job too much I guess. I became ill in February and took a sick day. Then my daughter was sick, I again took one day.

Then in March I ended up in the hospital with horrible kidney/ovary pain. I called from the hospital and took 2 days.

And then things went horribly wrong. I ended up with food poisoning or the flu, throwing up etc. I had to call in. My boss was rude and hung up on me. I quickly showered and went to work sick with blood shot eyes. My co-worker said, no way. Go home! You are too sick to be here. My boss came into work and motioned for me to approach like I was a peasant or something. She was rude and inconsiderate. She pushed back my probationary period and was just a mean, cold person (I use the term "person" loosely :)

Since then I am nervous. I am afraid to do anything. I am terrified, can't sleep etc. I worry about everything but I am proud that throughout it all I am nice. But then again, maybe I am a doormat. I try to be kind to everyone no matter what. I think that is professional at least.

But now here I am at 9am worrying about work which starts at 1pm. I am afraid that I won't be able to do seemingly simple things. Like take the kids outside. (I work in a daycare). I am afraid the kids will go bananas or that they won't listen.

Yesh. It sounds bizarre when I read this back.

How can we get past these kinds of situations? Why are people such jerks?

I have applied for another job but I am sure these kinds of issues will pop up again. I am a Mother of a school age child. I will end up missing work once in a while because my daughter is more important than a stupid job. Am I too? I was genuinely sick and was called out on it. I even had a sick note.

Another bad night!

I also try to meditate before sleep, it can work but sometimes I need a focal point. You can find live seascapes to focus on, which can help.

As for side effects, please check with medical people!

HELP!!!

It is so hard to cope with panic and anxiety when so many new things happen at once. For exampe: I am working today, the 2nd day back after a week off for a vacation, and I am full of tension and anxiety. I think that new things freak a lot of us out. I am not sure if it is change or not knowing, or both.

Try really hard to breathe. I know it sounds silly but focusing away from negative thoughts has helped me a lot. I think breaking things down into small steps helps too. Meditating helps a bit as well.

Starting new things can be rough. Be gentle with yourself and remember your triumphs. I too struggle with driving as I walk to work and don't need to drive so anytime I get the car I have to reassure myself and try hard to just drive my best and ignore the bad drivers around.

You can do this. I have realized recently that there is a lot of power in having anxiety and panic disorder. I know now that if I can live with these issues I can cope with just about anything! We are stronger than we think.

Keep positive, breathe, be gentle with you.

What is fear?

I am not sure if I have panic attacks, I more or less experience severe anxiety and then lesser anxiety. I am a creature of habit. For those of you who watch Coronation Street, I am kind of a Roy :)

I like predictability. I like knowing what will happen. But this isn't really a great trait as life isn't always predictable.

My "panic attacks" usually happen when I have to work. I grew up with a father and mother who both had anxiety, depression and panic attacks, all associated with new situations and especially work. I have always had a negative impression of work. I am always terrified of being fired etc. I am now trying really hard to raise my daughter with a healthier view of the working world. I don't talk much about work. I point out good parts and bad. I try to balance it all.

My sisters, brother and I all suffer with the same issues more or less. And we are all trying really hard not to pass these tendencies on.

As for frequency of attacks, maybe once or twice every 2-3 weeks. Mine can last from 10 minutes to an all day episode.

My triggers: being judged, new challenges

Take care,

Kendra
