New to the site

Hello Searching for Peace,   Welcome to our wonderful support community where you will find many members experiencing the same struggles as yourself and are always willing to offer a helping hand and an ear to listen.   Please do review the program and the resources available to you. Working through the sessions is challenging but very rewarding and you will discover a lot about yourself in the process.   There isn't a chat room on here per se...........posting on the boards and awaiting responses is how communication works on this site. There is however a button on the Forums page that allows you to install MSN so that you can chat live with others as needed. Give it a try and if you run into problems let us know.   Also what specifically are you having difficulty with when navigating through the community?   Good luck and post often,     Faryal, Health Educator

Specific Problems in Communication

Specific Problems in Communication

Timing

Timing IS everything. Sometimes we assert our needs and wants at the wrong time. As a result, we don’t get what we need or want. We get an argument. The secret to timing is to get better at taking the other person’s perspective and understanding what they need and want.

Kitchen Sinking

Kitchen sinking is what happens when an argument about one small thing becomes an argument about everything. For example, an argument about whose turn it is to do the dishes, take out the garbage or change the baby becomes an argument about always and never. When things really get going, everything from the past gets dragged up again including old disagreements and hurts, parents and in-laws and…the kitchen sink.

The problem with “kitchen sinking” is that the problem grows from a relatively simple argument into an argument about everything. As a result people get angry and frustrated and lose track of what the dispute is really about. The solution to this problem is to recognize kitchen sinking when it’s happening and to try to keep the dispute focused on the specific situation. If one person can recognize kitchen sinking when it’s happening and hold back from making the argument about everything, then both people have a much better chance of being able to focus on the specific problem at hand.

Lousy Day

Hi Caden,

Sorry to hear about the panic attacks lately. It is possible for them to arise unexpectedly at times. I believe this could be related to a subconscious trigger or thought that is bothering you.........sometimes the body reacts before the mind has a chance to really internalize the issue at hand.

On a more positive note, it's great to see that you are going to relaxation classes which will be very helpful ultimately.

Hope this week is a better one for you.

Afraid to write it down

Hello Denois,

Welcome to our wonderful support community. You have reached a great place for advice, encouragement and support.

Please do take the time to review the program and the tools available to you. As you move through the program, you will be able to utilize tests which are supportive tools you can share with your physician. The worksheets and homework will allow you to track your progress and allow you to learn a lot about yourself as well.

Thank you for sharing your story.  You have received input from other members already who can relate to your frightening thoughts and rationale.  Challenging these thoughts takes time and practice which is why we strongly advise you to work through the program at your pace.

Please post as often as you need to and good luck,

New Member - Anxiety in morning

Hi WQ,

Sorry to hear about your son being bullied at school. That can certainly cause further anxiety for you and your son. Hopefully your meeting with the principal will be helpful and focused at finding a solution.

As previously stated by Jhori, the best thing you can do is be loving and supportive but in a way that is motivational and not crippling for your son. As parents, we have to teach children to love themselves and take pride in their strengths. Learning what is unjust and cruel is important so as not to accept it, and also not to repeat it. Are there counsellors at his school who can help in this situation?

Do let us know how things work out and hope this week is a better week for you.

Myth or Fact?

Hi Perth,

The myth in this situation is a thought or idea that is perceived to be true but is not.

The fact is that many individuals possess the fear that they will lose control in a panic attack, but don't actually lose their ability to move or become paralyzed. So you are right that they are afraid of this idea...........this fear drives them to believe that it may actually happen even though it does not.

Hope that was helpful and not too confusing!!

Detoxification and Fasting

Detoxification and Fasting

Living in industrialized societies with advancing technologies lend to some negative side effects. Among them is the toxic burden placed on human beings who are constantly exposed to toxins in the environment from air pollution, chemical solvents/cleaning products, gasoline fumes and by products of factory emissions, highly processed foods and more.

These toxins are introduced into the body in various ways – through the skin, breathing, and eating or drinking. If not eliminated properly, the toxins accumulate in the body and settle into cells………in particular fat cells.

When embarking on a healthy weight program, detoxification should be the primary first step. Our strongest ally in the effort to detoxify is water. Drink at least eight to 10 glasses of filtered, distilled or spring water each day. Water can also help to curb the appetite. In fact, a hungry feeling may be the body’s first call for water. Whenever hungry, try drinking a large glass of water first – this may quell your desire for food. Even if the hunger returns, you’ll be inclined to eat less at the meal that follows. Adding a few drops of fresh lemon juice boosts water’s cleansing potential.

Fasting is one of the oldest and most effective detoxification methods. It has been practiced by many cultures since the beginning of time, and is still a current practice. Many people can benefit from going without solid food for 1 to 7 days or so. This gives the digestive system a “break” and allows the body to utilize this energy towards cleansing and eliminating the build-up of “garbage” that has accumulated over the years. Fresh fruit or vegetable juice fasts are easy on the body.  These provide the body with high concentrations of vitamins, minerals and enzymes to aid in the cleansing process.

Fruits with a high water content such as grapes and citrus varieties are favourites for detoxification and weight loss. Pineapple is high in the digestive enzyme bromelain which aids digestion and promotes weight loss.

Members, share your thoughts on detoxification and fasting and if you would consider adding these to your weight loss program.
