That's great, Phil!
I don't dare look too far down the road, but it's encouraging to hear that this is happening in your life. I hope and pray that I'll be experiencing it for myself before too long.
But...however long it takes, I'm smoke free today. That's all that matters.
Enjoy your day and your new-found 'non-smoker' identity. And keep posting. It's good to hear from you.

Thanks for the welcome Nonic, Healer and Josie!
It's a new day and I'm looking forward to the positive changes. I've already noticed a few, just in the first 40 hours or so, but I know from past experience to expect more in the coming days. So I'll focus on them instead of the negatives, like cravings. I don't intend for the withdrawal to rob me of my appreciation for life or the satisfaction I can experience from time spent with my children or working at my job.
My smoking has robbed me of enough already. I intend to start my new life now... not after the cravings go away. :)
I was a regular at this same forum back a few years ago and I met some wonderful people who were great inspirations to me then. I'm sure that I'll be encouraged now by a new set of fellow-travelers, like the three of you. And Josie, it's nice to see you again. :)
Anyway, I'm moving ahead with today...without fear. I know what has to be done and I'm going to do it. I'm going to get all I can out of today...smoke-free.
Summersmiles, that's fantastic!!
I was here a couple of years ago, and I remember how much the 100th day meant to me. It was a real milestone! And even though I went back smoking shortly after that, and am now quitting again... getting that far into a smoke-free life has really served to form a road-map for me now as I start down that road again.
I know how good you feel today, and you should feel good! You've come a long way and you've negotiated some big hurdles. So good for you! Keep doing what you're doing!
21 mg patch gives you the equivelant of about 8 cigs worth of nicotine over a 24 hour period (if you're using a 24 hr patch). That's what I'm using and it's nowhere near the amount of nicotine that I was getting from a pack or better of cigs a day.
So... I don't even notice it, aside from the fact that it takes the edge off the physical withdrawal. But it doesn't remove it by any means.
But if you were a fairly light smoker I suppose that 21 mg a day might seem like too much nicotine.
Maybe the gum would work better? You have more control over how much nicotine you're taking in.
34 years at a pack a day, but today's the day. Yesterday actually, but this is my first full day... and I don't feel that bad.
I do want a cig, but the cravings come and go... and I don't dwell on them. I keep my mind on other things.
I tried this once before and made it four months. Then I hit a trigger that I wasn't willing to deal with. But live and learn, so here I am again, and I'd like your help! Share your experience with me, and I'll share mine with you. Hopefully we'll all be better for it.
I was scared and didn't want to face this day, but here I am. I know that I have to quit, and now that the day has come... I'm not turning back again.
lavndr, I understand. I considered giving up my quit this week because of tensions in my life. Instead, I decided to use the situation as an opportunity to learn how to deal with those tensions without a smoke.
I haven't done that since I was a kid, and that was a long, long time ago. So, it doesn't come naturally. I have to learn how to manage those sorts of problems without resorting to cigarettes... and I can do that. If I could do it when I was 12... I can do it now. :) It just takes some retraining.
Non-smokers deal with these kinds of issues all the time... without a smoke. And that's what I'm becoming; a non-smoker. Little by little, with every new day, with every challenge and circumstance.
