Too Much Nic from Patch???

17 years ago 0 1040 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
21 mg patch gives you the equivelant of about 8 cigs worth of nicotine over a 24 hour period (if you're using a 24 hr patch). That's what I'm using and it's nowhere near the amount of nicotine that I was getting from a pack or better of cigs a day. So... I don't even notice it, aside from the fact that it takes the edge off the physical withdrawal. But it doesn't remove it by any means. But if you were a fairly light smoker I suppose that 21 mg a day might seem like too much nicotine. Maybe the gum would work better? You have more control over how much nicotine you're taking in.

Good a.m. all! First of all, thank you for all the wonderful advise from my prior posts. My question today is... am I od'ing on nic from the 21 mg patch. I did fine the first day or so.. two nights ago in the late afternoon I experienced a great amount of fatigue, headache, and I was very nauseated. LAST NIGHT it was twice as bad. I could barely drive home from work. Once I got home I jerked that 21 mg off and didn't replace it. I began to feel better as the night proceeded. I slept without the patch (fitful, but okay) and this morning put a 14 mg on. DO YOU THINK I WAS GETTING TOO MUCH NIC??? Thank you in advance for your advise. Marcy

You need to talk to the pharmacist or MD. But 21 mg. can be too much for some people. It depends on the amount of cigarettes smoked before using the patch. In an earlier quit of mine I used the 21 with no problem. With this quit I also used the patch early on. I started off with the 21 and had to take it off. I also had been smoking less at the time that I started this quit than I had for the previous quit. I went to the 14 with no further problems. Hang in there. Hi Marcy - It sounds like too much nicotine to me but everybody is right, your Doctor or Pharmacist would know best. I used to get dizzy right after my first smoke. I also used to get a little dizzy right after I put on the patch. Still, the patches sure helped ease me through the stages of withdrawal. I could not tolerate the 21mg patch either. I started off on the 14 mg and stayed on it for 4 weeks. I always take my patch off at night and have not had any sleep disturbance or monster am craves. The right mind set makes all the difference. Come see us often. Marcy, It is a good idea to talk to your doctor and pharmacist regarding dosages and side effects. This dosage may not be for you, so it may be a good idea to get some extra knowledge :) Josie ____________________ The SSC Support Team.
