Hey Gang...007 Quitters How are we feeling?

Let's see... I think I'm on Day 10. Feeling pretty good. No weight gain yet. Withdrawal symptoms were not that bad for me, and I don't know why. I haven't had major "craves". I have had times where I was at loose ends and those were times I would have (in my past life), smoked, but it wasn't the smoke I missed. It was just the something to do to tie up the loose end! Back to work this week, and today was stressful, but I laughed it off, and went to the next thing that needed done. In this process, I'm really watching how I react to things - stresses, etc. I'm consciously changing that reaction, and think it's going to be good. Instead of focusing so much on smoking, I'm observing events that happen in my days and the thoughts triggered by those events, and making a choices regarding my reaction and/or behavior. I've been pretty happy. I think about smoking less than I did, but it's still there. My sleep is messed up. I've had some wild dreams, and I'm not on the patch. I don't get nearlyl as many hours as I used to, but I don't feel like it's the end of the world. I guess I don't need it that bad right now. I had one piece of nicorette yesterday and one today, so I'm about done with it as well. I've never been able to quit in the past. The mind games I played with myself drove me up the wall. What is different this time for me, is that smoking was no longer an option. It's as if cigarettes just don't even exist anymore. Can't smoke if I want to. I divorced cigarettes and they are gone for good. They have moved out of my house, I have happily cleaned up behind them and that's the end of the story. Every time I think of smoking when I feel stressed, I ask myself what would smoking solve? It would just make my throat and lungs hurt, and the stress would still be the same. I pray that this attitude doesn't change for me, because it is what I needed to quit for good. And... I am so very proud of myself!!! Thanks for listening and I enjoyed reading these. Thanks, Aunt Deb for starting it! Today I am Grateful!

Thank you Colleen for the wonderful post! I had one of those more undesirable days today, and your post made me get up and brush off and move on with life, with gratitude! I am also grateful for my freedom from nic., among other things. I'm a Whiner

Thanks for your responses! I figured a little more of it out, but don't know what to change. It's going to be a project in progress! Here's what happens: I go to school, and I teach all morning... get the ole' adrenaline revved up to get me through the classes, and looking smart. lol So... it's noon - time to go smoke - gotta do something to get rid of this adrenaline! No... can't smoke anymore, so go out for lunch. That doesn't do it. I spent the entire afternoon unsettled, just going from one thing to another in my head and on my desk, and accomplishing little. It's the first of the semester, I have a ton to do, and I'll get it done... tonight! I need to figure out a way to get rid of the adrenaline between morning and afternoon. I use the afternoons to prepare for the next day, and need to be calm instead of all wound up! So... I'm thinking exercise might be the first thing I'll try. Tomorrow, I'll take clothes with me and at least go get on the treadmill for awhile. I'll keep you posted. One other question: The most nicorette I ever used was 4 of the 2 mg pieces the first day I quit. Over the weekend there were a couple days I didn't have any, when I was sick, and the past two days I had one piece each day, and today I didn't bother. I can't imagine that one piece of nicorette gives you much of a zing... what do you think? I love those little dove chocolates. Try them with cashews... so non-fattening! Good though! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 108 Amount Saved: $19.3 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 6 Mins: 7 Seconds: 31

Not a Pain Free Experience.

Kaiti, Now I know why you yelled at your husband in his sleep! It was revenge from when you were in labor, and he stood there and told you it isn't a pain free experience, while he was feeling just fine! LOL Love the analogy! I always enjoy your posts. You make me laugh on days like this! Crankiness anyone?

Me either! Imallclear... you crack me up. My crankiness kicked in today, and I don't like it! My thing is that I don't really take it out on anyone else much, but in my head I'm a witch! Where is Your Destiniation

John W - I like this post as well. I'm 50, have one daughter in college, and I teach graphic design courses at a college. Unfortunately, it's not the same one... she's 4 hours away. I smoked for 32 years. I plan to get back into some good exercise very soon. I used to play raquetball quite a bit, and would like to start playing again. My goal is to begin travelling during the summer months, doing some type of volunteer or educational thing. Smoking would get in my way, and that was one of my reasons for really wanting to quit.
