Hey everyone, Looks like I'll be really working on those coping strategies during my quit. My mom fell and broke her knee in 5 places Thursday morning. I've been with her at the hospital. She doesn't have the best health anyway and now she'll spend Christmas in a hospital bed. She also has bronchial pneumonia and congestive heart failure. That's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to her health issues. As you can see, I'm a little upset. I'm hanging in there. I'm not sure if I'll be back to the boards before christmas. I hope so. I may need all the support you have to give. My big brother is coming to town so that will be a good thing. He's wanted me to quit for years. Thanks for listening. Peace and joy to you and yours, shelle My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/24/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

I've noticed the bad taste too. And that has made me not smoke some of the time. Mostly it's the nausea. I was a pretty heavy smoker, close to 3 packs a day. My doctor has me using the pills for 2 wks before my quit to get more of the drug in my system. By the middle of the first week I was down to 1 pack and I didn't even know it. Now that I'm making an effort to cut out more before sunday, I'm finding much easier than previous quits. shelle My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/24/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

The best christmas gift ever

I think it's a great idea to talk with your doctor. They have several options in meds now that could help you. But remember, there is no magic pill that can make it all go away. In the end, it's your determination that will make thae quit a success. I think you have a lot of that. Thanks everyone! I must say, I have been lax in posting back on my own thread. I've mostly been doing my lessons and reading others. I'm pretty confident about this quit. I'm also a little apprehensive too. Right now I'm working on changing some of my habits. Namely, delaying that first smoke of the day. I'm so used to having 2 or even 3 with my morning coffee. This is going to be the toughest one to change. Last night I made it for 90 minutes after dinner. I got on the phone with a friend and talked their ear off. But I didn't have a single crave until I hung up. Yeah!!! I'm proud of that one. Happy Holidays! shelle My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/24/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

I HAVE BEEN VERY BAD

Curvy, Thanks for this thread. You may not realize now how much of an impact it has on others. Heck, you may never know. It takes a lot of courage to stand up and say " Hey everybody, I stumbled for a minute, but I'm not giving up." About 15 yrs ago I quit for 3 whole years. 3 YEARS! I thought I had it licked. I was in control. It only took one to send me back to puffsville. But that doesn't mean we have to stay there. Try this when you light up. Concentrate on the cig. No distractions. Feel every lungful. Watch the ashes burn down. Don't put it in the ashtray. As you concentrate on this smoke think of how each and every puff feels. When you're done, try and identify the benefits of what you just did. I bet you can't find one. I didn't. Most importantly, don't give up on yourself. We can do this! shelle My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/24/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Coping mechanisms

How about this? Smell the dirty ashtray. Now that's disgusting. shelle My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/24/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

I've noticed that several people here are taking this stuff. Me too. Have any of you had an incredible thirst? I feel like I can't drink enough water. I'm drinking at least 3 32oz. bottles a day. Sometimes more. I've noticed my craves are different too. When I'm craving real bad and light up I discover it's not what I want and put it back out. I feel like I'm craving but I don't know what I'm craving. Does that make sense? Should I just wait out the crave and see what happens? shelle My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/24/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

I've been smoking for the past 23yrs. I've been on every NRT but the lozenge, taken the Zyban and the Wellbutrin. All without success. I always attacked a quit without a plan. Trying to do it on my own. I've tried to quit 6 times and never made it past the first 2 days. I called them failures, my doctor calls them practise runs. She's started me on a new drug called Chantix. I'm starting my second week of pills. They make me nauseous but I don't crave like I used to. Actually, I didn't even notice I wasn't smoking as much. My boyfriend, a non-smoker, pointed it out to me. I set my quit date for the 24th. A Merry Christmas to me gift. I'm hoping that by following this program that this will be the last time I quit. Thanks for listening. Happy Holidays, shelle

HO HO HO HERE WE GO

I started Chantix a week ago and I've had pretty good results so far. Beware of the nausea. I started eating a regular meal before taking the pill and that really helped. We can beat this! shelle My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/24/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0
