Another helpful hint comes from the AA twelve step program: the word is HALT, which stands for (don't let yourself get too:) Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired. These states often make one feel that the nasty substance we are quitting is what we need, although it is really just that we need some food or chilling out or company or rest. to Phil: I don't know what these icons are for, nor do I know how to post to you directly, but to answer your question: why lladro? Here's why: I've been practicing Tibetan Buddhism for about 14 years, and when you take the vow of Refuge (the first one) your lama (teacher) gives you a Dharma name. This is also true in other spiritual practices. The name my lama gave me was Tsering Lladro. Wow, I wish Iknew how to work this computer! I quit smoking three days ago, for about the ifteenth time. I'm not using any patches or other NR stuff. I have smoked for almost 50 years. This time I went to a hypnotherapist, and so far, so good. Worst times ar afteer meals, of course, and driving. Day one and continuing

Hi, Capp: Congratulations! I'm at the end of day three, and it's getting easier. I relate a lot to the abundance of new energy as well as the need to clean the nicotine off of stuff in the house. A good tip I got which is helping with the "taking a break" syndrome (because my break was always: a coke and a smoke) was to drink a glass of ice water with a straw. Or whatever your beverage might be; the straw seems to replace the smoke-associations or something. lladro My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 84 Amount Saved: $22 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 13 Mins: 55 Seconds: 8

Hey, thanks for all the supportive messages! This kind of backup is what will help me resist taking that one puff, which I know will become the next pack. I like the NOPE mnemonic (sp).

Thanks, Parrot Lady, but my machine tells me I can't access the Launch thing, and I haven't a clue about what else to try! I would so like to do this chat thing, and maybe I'm just doing something wrong... BUT: I am doing good; last night was around three or four smoking friends (but they were good enough to not smoke in front of me) and I felt no urge to bum one, which is usually how I got started again in the past. I have a neighbor who knows how to work his Mac, but he's into a newish relationship, and so fairly unavailable at the moment. Calorie Count Diet

Oh, am I glad to read all this stuff! I know the calories are a problem for me, too, and especially during the holidays. For example, I got two different high-calorie gifts in the mail yesterday, and I'm going to a party this afternoon, I will be much more able to exercise a little restraint after reading all your posts! I sure didn't last night...although I do feel good about not smoking for the last 9 days! Thank you all; I am just too computer-illiterate (when Casey says I need to allow pop-ups, I haven't a clue what that means). I can at least read some of your messages, and try to reply, but until I take a class, or get somebody over here to show me some stuff, that's about all I can do. I am happy to say that I got through some stressful stuff today without smoking, almost without even thinking of smoking! Thnks again for your help and support. lladro My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 145 Amount Saved: $33 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 0 Mins: 1 Seconds: 48

Need someone to help me though this

Hi, CD: I have 7 days clean and free right now, and it isn't nearly as hard as it has been in the past when I quit; who knows why? I did go to a hypnotherapist, I have been taking Wellbutrin for a few weeks, but I sorta think the craving is all in my head. Certainly I am over whatever withdrawal stuff I might have had. Here's a couple of tips that have helped me: The cd that came with the NR patches which I tried before says that for a lot of us, the inhale of the cig was the deepest breath we took, and it suggests just taking a deep, slow breath, holding it for 3 seconds, then slowly exhaling through your mouth. This is good to do when you feel like you want a smoke. Another interesting and useful thing is an ancient Hindu meditation technique called "being the witness". It can be used like this: when you are totally into the desire and the craving for a cigarette, just mentally step back and examine your craving; say something like "Hmmm. How interesting. So that's what it feels like to really crave a smoke." Then you can decide whether to continue feeling that way, or to move on. This was originally in Ram Dass' book "Be Here Now". I am finding that the support from the people here on this site is great; even though I am truly computer-illiterate, and can't even get to the Instant Messaging place, I can still get so much help, as well as all of the information in the Program. Best of luck to you! lladro My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 145 Amount Saved: $33 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0
