Just about to quit

Hi Guys, I am just posting a little info about myself. I am new to the program and have set my quit date for the 31st July. This is not my first attempt at quitting, I have tried 5 times in the past 15 years that I have been a smoker and the longest I managed was 3 months. I am 29 and my main motivation for quitting is that I want to be a non smoker by the time I celebrate my 30th Birthday in January next year... A ways to go yet but this is the first step on the road right??? I have a 6 year old child and live with my partner, who is a smoker, and not ready to quit yet. I have given him rather strict rules about smoking when I quit and he's behind me 100% of the way. I also have my friend Mistymoon here so that we can provide each other with support, admittedly long distance as she is US and I am UK... So here's hoping I can do it this time. My weakness is that I smoke when I am bored... At present I am kind of an at home mum, I am returning to University in September but until then I have quit working and am taking a long summer vacation... A whole 3 months. I really hope that I will be able to keep away from the smokes when I get into my coursework as it can be rather stressful at times... Anyway, I am rambling, I just popped in to say Hi.. Just about to quit

Thanks for the welcome guys... I appreciate it. I have already worked through the program to get myself prepared for quitting. This time I really do think it will work... Just seeing the details of how long other posters on this site have quit for is providing me with such strength and conviction that I too can do it... So D-day is Monday and I have reasons for that. My daughter will be at her fathers for a week on holiday and my partner will be back at work. That means I have the house to myself and nobody to tempt me into smoking... It also means that I won't be biting off heads left right and centre.... Extinguished in July Group

Wow, so many quitters in the Month of July... I am honoured to be amongst you all... Admittedly I just make it as a july Extinguisher as my quit date is 31st July.. But I count right?? After I have quit for 6 months I am going to use the cash to take my partner and myself away for a weekend. We went to Athens earlier this year for my birthday but I would like to visit Prague or Budapest next. It will though all depend on my University coursework cause by the time I have quit for 6 months I will be just finishing my exams... POOH!!! Just about to quit

You know I have already decided to change my quit date. I got up this morning and opened my last pack of ciggies, and I though, you know what??? Why should I go off and buy more to see me over the weekend when I can just quit earlier? So that's what I am going to do.... I am gonna smoke the last pack today and that will be it, over and done with, no more smoking for me.. I am soooo ready for this, not sure my daughter and partner are, I have already had quizzical looks about the no smoking signs I have put on all the doors in the house... Just to remind myself and others you understand... LOL I am so fired up, Here's to tomorrow My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/28/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: 0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Just about to quit

well, this is it.. I am making my first entry here as a non smoker... Today has not been as bad as I thought it would be. Even managed to go to the supermarket without wanting a ciggie (which is surprising as I don't do so well in busy places - kinda have panic attacks..} I am feeling rather tired though, so I may actually head to bed before 10 pm tonight... Cravings not too bad for the moment... Have lots of boiled candies in my no longer needed ashtrays.. Instead of lighting up and filling them with ash, I am emptying them of sweets when I have the urge to have a smoke.. One think I have noticed today is a feeling of pressure on my chest, like it's harder for me to breathe than normal... Should this be expected?? So YAY me, I made it through the first day... Just about to quit

Hi Luna, I'm not sure about wisdom, after all I was stupid enough to start smoking at the age of 14... Not the greatest move I have ever made... I think that I am finally listening to the people around me, my mother has been on at me to quit for many many years, and my daughter has been telling me to quit to (especially since she did health as part of her school science in Primary 1)... I guess I just figured it was about time... This habit is a very hard one to break, it's the start of day 4 and I feel on top of the world, despite a serious lack of sleep last night... I think I got about 4 hours, On the sofa!!! Luna, I think I will be happy when I have quit as long as you have, thanks for the support and kind words, Krissie My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/28/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 63 Amount Saved: 13.02 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 5 Mins: 30 Seconds: 21

Working on day 4... It's been great so far, not a single craving all day.. It's now 25 past 4 in the afternoon here in the UK... I took my daughter out for a celebratory trip to the Cinema today to reward myself for surviving this far.... Only problem was I don't drive, and the cinema is at the beach, about 6 miles away... We walked it all the way there and back.... And it was the most fun we have had together in a long long time... My pledge not to increase in size/weight

Hey Misty, No, not dedicated, just desperate to fill in those hours when I am now no longer sat with ciggie in hand.... I can't walk and smoke at the same time and when I was cutting down a while ago I walked heaps... That's when I lost a stone in weight... Not that it stayed off long.. :( I was planning on joining the gym when I start uni as they have their own one and it is really cheap... So this way I get a bit of a head start... Hershey kisses???? The only candy I could eat for days without getting sick of them... They finally started selling them here in the UK but I don't eat them often as I get bad sugar rushes (not diabetic but if I get too much/not enough sugar I have funny turns)... The lateral thigh trainer arrives tomorrow.. I can't wait.. Emma and I walked from our house to the beach today (a total of 12 miles) to go to the cinema.. We saw Cars and it was my treat to myself and to her for having managed 3 days... You know what?? I didn't have a single craving all day today.... Something ain't right!!! Take the exercise at your own pace Misty... Just How Many Cancer Sticks Did You Use to Smoke Each Day

See I thought I was a heavy smoker at about 20 - 25 a day... But being here has shown me just how light my addiction has been compared to some... How did people ever manage yo fit in time for 40 to 80 smokes a day??? just can't fathom that... 16 a day is 1 for every hour you are awake....
