Mel,
I didn't read all the responses so please forgive any repition. For me, I usually pop back in when I'm pondering a new phase of life or just general life reflection. It's seeing how far you've come and where you've been. I never thought I'd be able to quit smoking so it STILL tickles me to think that I have. It blows my mind that it'll be two years soon because I didn't think I'd make it past 9 days. I remember watching my Quit Meter wondering how everyone seemed so far ahead!
Usually I stop in to check out the stats parade and see if there are any other old timers around. Invariably though I will see a title of someone struggling and I can't help but reply.
With all that said - YOU ARE AWESOME! These first few days are tough and there will be other tough days but you are giving yourself the best gift ever...a life of FREEDOM. Keep on keepin on and you'll be writing a similar reply soon.
Be Blessed
Sandra

Great job Parola! It is definitely hard to do. It's a lot like the first time you face your other triggers - stress, after meals, finishing a task, etc. It takes a while but you'll break the association. Try seeing how absurd it looks for someone to put a flaming stick in their mouth. Squinting the eyes and surrounded by toxic fumes.
My first few weeks every time I saw a friend of mine it was like she turned into a big cartoon cigarette. I couldn't be around her at all! She still smokes and I'm still not

Shelly,
First - GREAT JOB because 10 Days is a big deal!
It's true everybody's quit is different but I don't think too much time here is a bad thing. That levels off. My first few weeks it was hard to think about anything else other than quitting so it was nice to see other people who knew what I was going through. Also, friends and family can lose interest but you know it is ALWAYS the topic of conversation around here!
Be Blessed,
Sandra

Struggling,
Great job on 8 DAYS! Tomorrow will be 9, then 10 and two weeks will be here before you know it.
It's time to shake up the strategy a bit. Rent a movie (or a dozen), get some chicken soup, some herbal tea, get your favorite slippers and spoil yourself. Let your body recover and let this be your first cold WITHOUT cigarettes!
Hopefully you rewarded yourself for your first week's accomplishment. If not, you could shop online for a fantastic gift worth about $50 since you have saved that much already. Also, you have NOT smoked 211 cigarettes which is OVER a carton. Amazing.
Also, I propose a new screen name. Having everyone call you Struggling and identifying yourself that way can't help. How about:
Struggles No More
Struggled
No Struggle
Me, Struggle?
Overcame
Ex-Smoker
Ok, that was too much but you get the idea. And actually once you make it through this you will be creating positive reinforcement because you can always look back and remember how hard Day 8 was...but you made it through. ;)
Be Blessed

Changing you are TOO CUTE!!!
Good on you my friend. I'm so glad to see you trudging through this cold and with such determination and a great attitude. I'm certain now that this quit will stick. :)
Hope you feel better soon and know that the best is yet to come...

Cincere,
Thank you that you posted this as a warning to others who are considering going down this road. It's in the back of everyone's mind who has ever tried to quit and you've given a great picture of the reality of going back. When those tough craves hit we romanticize about how everything was perfect when we smoked. It just isn't true as you've described.
Keep your chin up and make the next time your last. It sounds like this was not an easy lesson for you to receive but you can do it.
Be Blessed

Alexa,
Great job on those 32 Days! I think a large part of the 30 day funk is losing all those little goals and reminders of how cool it is that you QUIT SMOKING. This is a huge deal and you should treat yourself like it is.
In the beginning, you mark off the first week and the second and third and finally ONE MONTH. Then what? 46 days just doesn't have quite the same ring to it. When the excitement wanes is also when the rubber meets the road. This not smoking thing is more than just something you are doing, it is who you are!
It's these rougher patches that cause us to dig our heels in and truly learn the harder lessons. The easy days are easy but the tough ones build us as people and offer you what you'll need to face the trials ahead. You've got what it takes and this too shall pass :)
What was your 30 Day reward?
Be Blessed
Sandra

AliRiza,
I'm glad you recognize enough in yourself to know where your weaknesses lie and that you know you need to stop. There is a man by the screen name of BUBBA that will probably be along shortly who smoked 3 packs a day also.
