A visit to the dentist

Minnesota,
Don't feel guilty about the money!!!  I've been off work for anxiety and always felt guilty about the money but now I know better.  I'm sure your
husband is glad to support you.  If the roles were reversed I'm sure you would be glad to support him. Remember that!!!

What happened????

Dear Jaci,
I'm very sorry for the loss of your father!  I too find that maybe during a traumatic time I do ok, It's after that it seems to catch up to me.  I think
sometimes we just have to face what is in front of us and it takes time to grieve.  What we know as familiar isn't maybe familiar anymore
because something has definitely changed.  That can bring on anxiety.  But....it doesn't have to last!!!

I know what helps me is meditating on God's word, working this program, going to a support group and taking time to relax and just enjoy
the blessings of the moment!

I hope you find encouragement and hope here! And see that things can get better!

Did you know?

I don't like hearing negative news either, but I guess there is some benefit in facing reality.  It's like knowing what the illness really is but
let's not leave it at that!!!!!  I went from starting my own business, getting married, having babies to quiting my job, divorcing and losing my home.
Now since I faced the reality of my anxiety, did exposure work , I've been back to the job I left. Love it and have enjoyed that success of living life
for the past 9 years!   I truly feel I'm better for the experience not that I would have chosen it!!! but I think it has taught me compassion for others
and many other things I might not have learned other than through experience.
I joined this site because I want to keep growing.  I've realized I've kept some fears from my childhood and I think because my children are
at the age I was when I faced some of these specific fears I'm re-experiencing them myself.  I hope to face them and not run from them.  My
children's father is a recovering alcoholic so I also am doing this for my children so if they develop unrealistic fears or anxious tendencies they
have a place to turn.
God bless everyone's day!

Did you know?

All of you make very good points!!!!!!  I'm wondering if that was thrown out here for this very reason......to get us to look at the positive, successes
obviously from what I read from all of you we have more successes then not!!!!!  That sure is a comfort to me!!!!  I like what one of the sessions
asks us...."are we gonna buy what the fear is trying to sell us?"  I agree...Where are the positive stats!

Improving Time Management Skills

I always get to work about a half hour early to return phone calls and get ready for the day.
When I start the day out with calm, I find the rest of the day goes much better when I'm prepared!
I work by appointment, so I'm careful to give myself enough time with each client so I can do my best, give them the attention they want and
I'm focused on doing what is in front of me instead of what comes next.

exposure therapy

I live in the United States, not sure if anyone watched the Oprah show Wednesday?  They had ocd sufferers and they went through 3 days
of intense exposure therapy.  It suggested not to do that intensity without a qualified therapist.  What I did find fascinating was the progress
they made and in such a short time.  I don't have ocd but I was really impressed with these incredible people and how brave they were to
face their worst fears.  I guess it all sounded a bit like this program.  Exposure and challenging your thoughts.  The idea was to stay in the
moment of fear and challenge those thoughts. Just wondered what those of you who saw it thought?????

need a little help

Being sick or tired is when I do feel more fatigued but sometimes I don't even have the energy to  think so sometimes I'm less anxious,
because I know I'm actually sick and not just thinking I'm sick. LOL  now how sick is that...LOL
That is when I know I have to be gentle with myself and just give myself a break and take it one day at a time!
Hope you have a good day!

What happened????

Jaci-
For myself I'm finding that just my negative thoughts or what if thinking gets me started into all out worry.....the old challenging your thoughts
idea. If something in my mind overwhelms me I can start to think the worst. (I'm now starting to replace those thoughts with "What if some-
thing really good happens instead") I'm finding that I often enjoy the moment I was originally dreading and something good usually comes
out of it!!!! If I will only let it!
I hope you find your answer!

catching the bus

Hi! Georgie, this is a topic I really can relate to cause this is definitely my biggest fear!!!!  I'm afraid to ride in the car
with anyone other than someone safe.  This is my big frustration.  It seems so silly but for me it feels huge.  I do fine
driving myself or my children or with my husband or mom but add another couple, a load of kids or another parent and
I panic.  I think my fear is of what if I have a panic attack and want to escape and i can't. Or what will they think of me.
Or what if I need a bathroom cause my stomach starts churning, sorry if that is to personal but this frustrates me to no
end.  My children are are at the age where carpooling is unavoidable but I do the  best I can to avoid it. I know this is not
healthy and I don't want them to know my irrational fear.  When I feel good and able to drive them I do and it feels great
but I really avoid it at all costs.  I'm hoping to really over come this but it feels impossible.
Reading how you successfully ride the bus repeatedly, I can feel your wonderful accomplishment and appreciate the effort
you are making and you should feel really great about your successs!!!! I'm celebrating with you!  I use to be fine in most
of these circumstances so i'm hoping I will see and get the mindset that I can go back to being unafraid.
Way to go you are doing great!  I'm really envious!!!!

What happened????

I like to make a trip like that as positive as I can like, go with the attitude of I can do this!!! Listen to your favorite cd, possibly a relaxing one.
Stop for a treat on the way or treat your dog and yourself some how when you get home...Maybe put a note to yourself on the dash board
like I won't believe the lie anxiety is trying to tell me.  I literally try to stop myself now when I start the days ahead thinking cause it ruins what
could have been a good day.  I also think about all the times I have driven without anxiety and remember I can do this and that it is definitely
worth doing.  If I panic I do, this too will pass and I will be ok.  I still have succeeded in some way by just facing it! I also like to notice my
surroundings and if it is a beautiful day enjoy that!
