started remeron--getting some side effects

I was on Pamelor and was switched to Remeron back in January of this year. Since then I haven't been getting a good night sleep. I haven't woken up my alarm in a long time. I usually wake up about a hour or so before I have to. I don't think the Remeron helps with panic and anxiety like Pamelor should. On a personal note I have had a problem with diarrhea where the Pamelor made me constipated. Luke

HI...I'M NEW HERE

Hello, another newbie here. It looks like one of the only males here. I have been dealing with panic attacks since I was 17. I'm 28 now. I thought it was something I would grow out of, not knowing thier was a name for this. I was finally able to get help at 22 when depression really started to set in. I started avoiding a lot of things like most of you. I was put on Pamelor, now Remeron back in January, and Xanax (1mg 3 times a day). It worked great, I moved out on my own and was able to travel, which I love. Now I am unhappy to announce that I am an alcoholic, almost 90 days ago and going to AA meeting. I didn't drink everyday. It was just when I started drinking I didn't want to stop. I told my psychiatrist, and he is taking me off Xanax. Although I have never had the desire to abuse them. It was a miracle medicine for me. I could do so much. This is my last week on the Xanax and I will be off them after 8 weeks of lower dosages. I am scared; I am having all these panic feeling again that I though I was free of. I am also in therapy to help change my behavior thinking. I have been to 5 visits and don't feel much better, really kind of worse. I am hoping it€™s just the Xanax withdrawal and things will soon settle out. I am glad I found this site. It looks like it could be a lot of help. Luke

started remeron--getting some side effects

Your Question: Is drowsiness, dizziness and having a foggy head normal for side effects of Remeron? I guess I never really answered your question. I read that those are some of the side effects. I take mine before bed. I may experience that a little, but like I said before I haven't been able to sleep till my alarm clock goes off since I have changed over to it and that may cause some of my drowsiness. Luke

Welcome to new members!

Hey, I am glad to be here. I started dealing with panic attacks when I was in 7th grade. They seemed to go away after a while and appeared again in 9th grade and went away. Then my senior year when I was 17 I started getting panic attacks when I woke up every morning and sometimes I would make myself sick. I thought it was something that would go away. After about 5 years of dealing with them depression started getting really bad, that€™s when I found out I wasn't crazy and we had a name for panic disorder. I'm now 28 and have been on Pamelor and now Remeron and Xanax for about 6 or 7 years. It worked great, now I am coming off Xanax for the past 8 weeks and I am having to deal with panic attacks in full force again. I am in therapy to help me deal with them. After about 6 visits I don't see it helping much. I had a panic attack at work today. I was startled by a co-worker, just when he spoke real quick and caught me off guard. My heart started pounding, chest got tight, skin would tingle and the onset of major fear. I am really having trouble with the self defeating thoughts, after a panic attack I feel so worn out physically and emotionally. This panic can take over your life if you let it. I am hoping to find some strength on this web site. Thanks Luke

Triggers!

Kim did a good job I think. I had a panic attack today, just when someone spoke when I was caught off guard. Luke

anger??

I think I really get agitated, especially after the attack is over. It takes the life out of me sometimes and wears me out, so that maybe why I get angry sometimes. Luke

Setback Today

I am off xanax now and have been trying to deal with panic attacks on my own. I was in church this morning and could not relax. I was having little panic attacks, skin tingling, short of breath and fear. I was feeling so light headed and nauseous I had to leave after 30 minutes. I used to not have a problem at all with medication. I have always been religious (not trying to get preachy), but I used to avoid church because I didn't want to have a panic attack. Therapy doesn€™t seem to work after about 6 visits. I am trying to face my fears, but they are kicking my butt. I am exhausted and worn out. I know it€™s not a positive attitude, but the panic experience is getting the best of me. It controls me so much. Luke

I'm introducing myself....

I had my experience with drugs and alcohol. I also had my share of panic attacks while smoking pot in high school. It wasn€™t till I was 17 after I had quit smoking pot that I would get panic attacks without pot. I have read other peoples experiences with smoking pot and suffering from panic attacks later in life. If they are related I do now know. I didn€™t get help with my panic attacks till I was 22, I didn€™t know their was a name for what I had, also I developed depression before I got help. I thought I couldn€™t handle life very well. I didn€™t want to take medicine either at first, but after the doctor told me how much they would help I gave them a try and it worked really well. Religion is good to. My family isn€™t very religious, but before I got help I made a spiritual effort for help, I still use it to this day. There is hope Luke :)

Help with Paxil

well i just started paxil today and in a few hours i felt like getting off the couch and doing something. I know if it is just that I am ready to try something new, because the last 2 monthes were not doing anything for me. Still I just took this today, maybe i am over reacting, but i haven't felt this good in a while. maybe in the long run it will get better. I know with xanax it took a while to get rid of that space feeling. Luke

Help with Paxil

Thanks, I am doing great. The doctor gave me Paxil and Klonopin along with the Rememron I have been on. I feel like the good old me. I guess you read that the doctor couldn't give me xanax anymore because of me bedding addicted to alcohol since it works in the same area as the brain as alcohol. In the past 24 hour I have made a complete turn around. I guess with the depression so bad I thought I was running into a dead end. Thanks for your concern, now I hope I can help put some more postive input into the group. I showed my docotor the print out from the online diary from this site and he was really impressed. Thanks again for your concern and hope to try and post often when I am not dancing in the streets :) Luke
