Help with Paxil

21 years ago 0 1 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I have been taking paxil for over 4 years and it's beginning to wear off, or at least I think so. it saved my life, I went from agoraphobic and suicidal to social butterfly! But the anxiety is starting to come back. I'm only taking 10mg and I have been taking between 10-20mg during this 4 years. My question is, will my anxiety subside if i UP the dosage, for at least a couple more years, or is this medicine not working for me anymore? what other options do i have, as I am afraid of my livelihood!

I don't have Agoraphobia or anything. But I am taking Praxil for my depression. I started yesturday. So far, Its kinda made me dopey, like when I take cold medicine. I havent started feelings better yet, but I'm not thinking about bad things anymore. Hopefully I can cope someday without the help of a drug. Till then, heres to modern medicine. :)

Hey Luke: Hope you are still doing good on your meds. When I took meds the first one I started on was Xanax and did use it for a while then I became pregnant with our fourth child so I was weaned off it. No problems. when my panic attacks started again 2 years later. I was put on Paxil which I could not tolerate and Klonopin. I took .5 mg 3 times a day. It worked wonders. It is longer acting than xanax and you need to slowly taper off it no just stopping it the withdrawl can be uncomfortable. So take your time and you may have to try different meds to find the right one or the right combo. Good luck, Luke I am thinking about you. Elaine

Hey, I still a live and well, I guess I made a mistake about feeling well. The doctor gave me 2mg of Klonopin right away and not PaxilCR. I take the 25mg PaxilCR in the morning, 1mg of Klonopin 3 times a day then the Remeron at night. I went to the doctor yesterday and to discuss whether to drop the Remeron and stick to Paxil and he says he has about a 60 percent success rate with the PaxilCR, but he says it might not be good for since one of my panic attack symptoms is nausea. Pamelor I am told is better on the stomach. I still have a bit of anxiety still I don't know if 1mg of Klonopin is as effective as 1mg of xanax that I was taking and didn't have and problems is anxiety. I know I have been though a lot the past few months and maybe I just need to let things settle out a little longer. I still have 3 weeks to decide on what to do, but wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions or advice. Hope some of this makes since. Again it is great to have this site. I wish I had time to check it everyday. Hope all is going well with everyone. Luke

How uplifting a post, Luke. Positive reults are encouraging to everyone. Thanks for your feedback on the Panic Diary. I hope others will try it as well and tell us how it impacts their visits to the doctor's. -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator

Thanks, I am doing great. The doctor gave me Paxil and Klonopin along with the Rememron I have been on. I feel like the good old me. I guess you read that the doctor couldn't give me xanax anymore because of me bedding addicted to alcohol since it works in the same area as the brain as alcohol. In the past 24 hour I have made a complete turn around. I guess with the depression so bad I thought I was running into a dead end. Thanks for your concern, now I hope I can help put some more postive input into the group. I showed my docotor the print out from the online diary from this site and he was really impressed. Thanks again for your concern and hope to try and post often when I am not dancing in the streets :) Luke

well i just started paxil today and in a few hours i felt like getting off the couch and doing something. I know if it is just that I am ready to try something new, because the last 2 monthes were not doing anything for me. Still I just took this today, maybe i am over reacting, but i haven't felt this good in a while. maybe in the long run it will get better. I know with xanax it took a while to get rid of that space feeling. Luke

Hi There - sorry to hear of your recent struggles.. I am not a doctor, however, I am very familiar with anti depressants and side effects... Sometimes, it takes several different tries to find the medicine that works for you. Please, if it is intolerable, contact your Doctor and get switched.. and keep switching until you find one that does not cause side effects. I would get so discouraged from side effects - I would just not take it, and then spiral out of control. Finally I found paxil - and it got me feeling so great, with no side effects... I stopped taking it and guess what... NOT GOOD THING TO DO...physical withdrawl was wicked.. anyways... Sometimes if you can make it through the first week or two, the side effects go away. I should say USUALLY - they go away....but if they do not -or remain severe - go try something else. Dont give up. If your doc feels you warrant medicine.. then you had prolly better be on it.... until/unless you find a different method of coping.

Hi, I was on paxil for about 2 years, and also experienced many side effects, although none as severe as yours. I experienced severe tremors, and it caused a lot of problems with sleeping. Mainly, i couldn't stop sleeping! It also made me very nauseous. I think that it really depends on the individual, but i've found celexa to be much better for me. I've been on it for about 2 years now as well, and have had no side effects. Good luck! Remember, that those kinds of medications take around 3 weeks to start working, so it might be a matter of time. I would see your doctor to be sure though.
