What would you do?

That's just nasty!!! Seriously? I would manufacture some "urgent" excuse to leave the house and go workout at the gym or indulge myself in a decadent dessert at the local cafe, or both. First though I would call my husband aside and enlist his support in my scheme and I wouldn't come home intil the coast is clear.  Personally, after a lousy day I couldn't imagine myself remaining in a situation where someone around me would be chainsmoking.

Your guide to quitting ? Seeing Yourself as a Non-Smoker!

I know I created a list of all the negatives and positives of smoking when I made the decision to quit. To my surprise there were about 30 negatives and only 4 positives.  I have kept that list and when I'm tempted to give in to the crave it reminds of my reasons for becoming a non-smoker.  Also, those measly 4 positive reasons now seem ridiculous e.g. a de-stressor - I've discovered that a cigarette does nothing in that regard whereas excercise, removing myself from a very stressful situation or treating myself to some little special thing does a heck of a lot more than reaching for a cigarette.  Also, watching my mother go through cancer treatment day after day (60 year smoker) is very sobering and reminds me of how my cravings are nothing in comparison to the suffering she is now going through.

Electronic Cigarettes

I used the inhaler briefly in the beginning but found it just increased my cravings , at least psychologically, because the physical actions are just like smoking a cigarette.  I would imaging that the electronic cigarette creates the same associiation. I'm currently using the gum only and going down very gently (2 mg. per week) and that way my body hardly feels the withdrawl at each decrease because it's such a small amount.  The drawback is that it seems to take forever and I'd loike to just get it over with.

Cravings after 135 days quit????

I'm going through the same thing right now.  I quit 72 days ago but for the first time since I quit my cravings have been driving me nuts for days now.  I really think it's because I've been sick for almost 2 weeks now and am under a lot of stress.  I remember back to when I first quit drinking 3 years ago anh now I never crave alcohol any more.  At worst it's just an occasional passing thought.  However, I do think that with any addiction we will have to be vigilant for the rest of our lives.  It gets much much easier with time but we can't drop our guards because that is when it sucks you back in.

Congrats working on it! You've done amn amazing job throughout a lot of stressors both work and personal. You're very inspiratuonal.

What if? Part II

Didn't smoke yesterday, won't do it today either!  Your comment Eyja about going for a run made a light bulb go on.  I know what my problem is.  I haven't been able to excercise for 2 weeks because I've been so sick.  I'm feeling better now and hoping to go back to the gym first thing tomorrow morning before work.  Excercise is amazing.  It's best natural "feel good" we can create for ourselves.

What if? Part II

Boy oh boy can I ever relate to what everyone is saying!  I haven't excercised in 2 weeks because of a pulled hamstring and a nasty flu.  Yesterday I saw a message therapist in a sports medicine clinic who was a miracle worker!  I was able to go to yoga last night and do a 1/2 hour run on the treadmill this morning.  I feel like a different person.  My mood is much better and I feel so grateful for having my health back, although the cough is still there but I know it will be gone soon enough.  I know when I decided to stop drinking I was terrified of the idea of never being able to have a drink again.  Afterall, it was my best friend, or so I believed.  Now I've been living my life for over 3 years perfectly fine without a drop of alcohol.  It's amazing how much time I spent thinking about drinking, obtaining it and consuming it, only to continuously repreat the cycle and delay quitting.  Did it make any of my problems better?  I can now say definitely no!  It made both my depression and anxiety worse and that would be my excuse to continue "self-medicating" with ialcohol.  I go to functions where others drink and I'm perfectly content with my mineral water now.  The one day at a time so works with any addiction!  So I am definitely NOT going to smoke today.  Have a terrific fresh air weekend everyone!!!!
