Newbie, taking my 1st steps

Thanks for the words Jim and Karen. Monday is my final quit date. I'll be reviewing the program this week so I'll be ready on Monday. It's funny, one of the guys at work is off next week. I'm sure he could care less whether I quit or not but he's happy he won't be around for round two of hell week!

I've already gotten a jump start on some of my favorite foods. What a smorgasbord I had on the weekend. Fresh batards with butter, and spicy Genoa salami. Pickles, olives and of course blue cheese. Deep fried calamari with cherry peppers, loaded nachos. A farmers sandwich with bacon, egg, lettuce and tomatoe. A huge fresh pretzel and a couple beers. I'm sure there was more but I can't remember. Boy this is going to be good, I can't wait to quit again. I even and went out and bought a new deep fryer on the weekend! Mmmmm prime rib and asparagus are on the menu for tomorrow night and I've got a pork shoulder in the freezer just begging to be turned into pulled pork sandwiches.

Don't worry, no need to call 911 yet. I also found the exercise bike. It was doubling as a coat rack. What a novel idea, quit smoking and exercise. This should be interesting. I wonder if it's too late to make it in the Olympics this year. I could be part of the Canadian moose roping team or maybe participate in the moose patty toss.

Cheers

Hey Ron. Great to be back, sort of. Actually this sites great. It got me there the first time and I'm sure I can do it again. Good to hear from people like you who have kept the Nicodemon at bay. Congrats to you.

We're going to be doing some spring cleaning this weekend in the igloo so I'll make sure the exercise bike's ready for action. I'm already visualizing pedaling away the miles while listening to some good 60's70's hippie music. The days are getting nicer now and I'm looking forward to getting on my real bike. The bike paths around here are quite extensive.

The roast beast never got cooked the other night. Somehow that night turned into homemade corn dogs and french fries and tonight was spaghetti. What do you mean "what the heck do you guys eat there in Canada?" I thought you are Cranadian too eh. Oh, maybe your from the other part of Canada or I guess you could have moved away. You know the waiting times at emerg up here are getting better. I only had to wait 4 hours when I broke my leg and a mere 8 hours when my appendix ruptured.

Cheers

Cali of course. I should have guessed that when I saw Yoga in your profile My wife was in Petaluma last September. I think her biggest concern on the trip was where would she be able to smoke. I think she's getting closer to trying to quit. Maybe she'll come along for the ride when I quit again. I've told her to get on this site and follow the program but no luck yet. No pressure from me. She's being smoking longer than me and I know she has to decide when she's ready.

Yoga must be great for the mind and body. I know just zoning out and concentrating on your breathing for a couple minutes feels so good. Do you ever go on the Pacific Crest Trail? I watched a documentary on it. Wow, that's right up my alley. I've put that on my wish list. This summer I'll be visiting my roots. I'll be camping/canoeing on Lake Kipawa which is where my Algonquin ancestors lived.

If you ever come north you should have no problems at the border. You've been made an honorary Canadian. Just tell them you know Rudy and you should be ok.

Cheers

I haven't started my quit yet. I have a million excuses if anyone wants to here them. On the brighter side, the new deep fryer works great. Made our fist batch of doughnuts last night.

Unbelievable! I just wrote a really long post then went to another site to see what scientific glass blowing is all about and lost my post. Anyway, here's what I think I said.

Yeah, I gotta get my head/heart into it. I had every intention to go over my 6 p's again but didn't get around to it. Again, a million excuses. What worked for me on my previous quit was staying busy. Our house is as old as the Titanic so there's lots to do. Time to make a list. Paint front hall, paint going upstairs, redo front closet, repair dresser drawer, refinish hoosier, clean basement, clean garage, paint garage, sand deck, resand/stain varnish floors, paint porch, till garden, clean and repair screen on front door. That should keep me going and scince the Leafs and Canadians aren't in the playoffs I'll have more time.

Scientific glass blowing. That's cool, or hot depending how you look at it. Jim, when I first saw your profile picture I thought you where smoking a hookah. I bet you could make some real nice ones.

Cheers

I think I'll replace the screen on the front door that one of the dogs ruined. The weather's getting nice so it'll be good to get some fresh air circulating. The second thing I'll do is clean out the front closet. If it hasn't being worn in two years, off to Goodwill it goes. I'll start going over the program again, but I'm not ready to set a quit date yet.

We've got a Robin building a nest on the front porch. I might see if I can set up a web came. I'm sure they're waiting for me to till the garden so they can get some juicy worms, but they'll have to wait till next weekend.

Yeah, a hooka's probably not the best way to use your talents. When you do retire it should be an easy transition if your interested in doing your art as a hobby. I'm kind of a jack of all trades, master of none. My wife's an artist, I can't draw a straight line with a ruler.

Still not focused on my quit but I did get off my butt this weekend. Bought paint for the porch, fixed the lawn mower, raked front and back, cleaned up the vegetable garden and cut the grass. Cooked some great back ribs made enough chili for seven lunches and did some grocery shopping for my mother. Ok, starting to get motivated now. Now that I'm keeping busy I can go over the program and pick my quit date. Here we go again!

Oh no, just read my earlier post. I didn't fix the screen door yet or clean the front closet. Whoops. The robins are gone, not sure what happened there, maybe a squirrel.

The pork shoulder was just ok.

Go Philly!
