Who's on for February 25

Well. Day 1 is about over and it has been amazingly --scaringly? -- easy! Spouse tells me it wasn't so bad because of all the practice I've had! True dat. Thanks for asking! I'm happy, not depressed; VERY relaxed, not climbing the walls; totally psyched about another smoke-free day ahead of me tomorrow instead of wondering where, how, and when I can cheat. Yeah, so maybe the very first hit of the very first cigarette after a long while tastes and feels pretty good, but by the third hit, it's downhill from there, no? We all know they get nasty before the first one is gone, and the smell is just horrible. I sure remember (with fondness) the buzz of the first one, but I also remember the self loathing that comes with number two. I am feeling SO done with all that. Thanks, everybody -- I'm really looking forward to getting to know you better. (And oui, Marcus, I'll bet you're really fantastic. I thought all French people thought they were fantastic.) pete (pierre) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/25/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 3 Mins: 51 Seconds: 36

A Little Scared

Definitely stuff to be scared of Sammie; scariest of all is freedom, because we're not tied or obligated to anything. Hard to imagine life without that after-dinner smoke, huh? Speaking only for myself, I'm more scared of slavery than of freedom, and I say that after having enjoyed 9 months of freedom and then decided that slavery was better. What was I thinking??? Walk with me into freedom, Sammie. We're both standing in the doorway. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/25/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 3 Mins: 52 Seconds: 59

CBT Day - Communication

Perhaps one way to be heard more clearly is to be known and trusted as a person who listens more carefully? peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/25/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 3 Mins: 55 Seconds: 33

Who's on for February 25

Thanks! Merci, Llama du jour (?) Well pride goeth before a fall, does it not?? Woke up wide awake at 3:30 this morning with my mouth and throat feeling like stone and all of my airways blocked. I figured it was my body kicking me around for all the abuse I've heaped on it, THEN discovered when I finally got up that I forgot to remove the nicotine patch. (DUH!) Won't be making THAT mistake again any time soon! Thanks again for the good words... peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/25/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 50 Amount Saved: $5.50 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 18 Seconds: 43

Who's on for February 25

Thanks, Marcus, merci. Oddly, unlike precious quits, I find each day more difficult than the last. Now it's Friday and I had some wine to celebrate the weekend, 4 or 5 days, whatever -- HUGE mistake. Thank God I read all that stuff about lower brain and higher brain in the workbook or wherever, so I know what's going on. That stupid wine (which I've avoided, and should have continued to avoid!) is shutting down my quit commitment and telling me I can smoke because I deserve it. Great. So now wine is my enemy too. Anything that shuts down my higher brain is my enemy, regardless of how long we've hung out together. Sure, I'm gonna miss those Friday nights, but not nearly as much as I'd miss the real, smoke-free me. I am so NOT going back. Gonna miss the wine, maybe a lot. Bring on the green tea. pete My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/25/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 200 Amount Saved: $22.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 21 Mins: 31 Seconds: 21

Is This Time Different?

Had to read through all the posts to figure out who Jack and Jeff were (I just figured it was some sweet gay couple), NOT. Your day is dawning, and I wish you the same boundless hope I felt on my quit date. I hope that whatever fear you experience is soon replaced by the exileration of the quit. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/25/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 200 Amount Saved: $22.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 21 Mins: 33 Seconds: 25

Uh Oh

I'm having "issues" with my quit meter. I am SO at 7 days today, but it only says 6. Totally smoke free. But. I did 9 months smoke free last year and blew it when my company told me I had to travel for a month (mother in law just had a stroke, spouse had to deal with her, our pets, and everything else on her own while I would be gone), so I caved. At the time it was the best/only way for me to cope. I caught holy hell from the SCC crowd for it, so I backed off. Here I am back again, and on my way to the airport again. I keep thinking that it will be no big deal if I cop a smoke once or twice on this trip. (Going to North Dakota for a week. SO COLD.) I know that's crazy. I love this quit, this is The Quit for me! I just know it. So why am I even THINKING of sneaking a smoke?? I feel so dirty and sleazy! (Here's the problem; since I'm on travel, I have only my work computer; not sure if the IT Powers that Be will allow me to get to you. They block Web e-mail, instant message services, and chat. I'll try and log in once I arrive in Bismarck.) I'm pretty sure I can weather this storm, but the "lower brain" is wielding a lot of power these days and keeps telling me that once I'm at the airport, I'm home free. I don't want to be home free, I want to be smoke free. But, God have mercy on me, I also want a smoke in the worst way. This quit has been weird -- every day has been more difficult than the last. Never been that way before... getting so worn down by the unexpected battles on Days 6 and 7... pete My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/25/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 300 Amount Saved: $33.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 6 Mins: 13 Seconds: 27
