I remember that period in my quitting process very well. I think I posted about it at the time, though I can't remember where. It was like the momentum of quitting wore off and all that was left was a blah feeling. It was around that time that I really realized that there would never be any smoking again. I "knew" it before that, but I didn't really know it.

I also get really stressed out by family time (and spending time with my husband's family is even less relaxing) but I try to remind myself that at least I am not experiencing the double stress of craving a cigarette and trying to find an excuse to sneak off long enough to have one. That was always the worst -- some episode would occur (usually involving an argument with my dad, or having to watch my husband argue with his dad without knowing whether I should get involved or just let it run its course) and all I'd want was to smoke but I wouldn't be able to. At least now I just have the one stress to focus on. And I firmly believe that holidays with the families are why the good lord gave us gin. :)

For me the blahs passed pretty quickly. Within a few days of acknowledging them they had lifted. Be nice to yourself and wait it out. I bet you feel better soon.

Hey Lemontwist!!!

You're doing great so far!!!  The blahs truly DO suck, but know that they won't last!  The holidays are full of triggers, and family interactions do bring out many triggers!  Congratulations for making  it through Thanksgiving as a NON-Smoker!  This is a great reason for rewarding yourself!  You made it!

There are a LOT of recommendations for different rewards in this thread that should make you feel great and gear you up for round 2 at Christmas time!  Remember to keep your eyes on the prize ALL the time... Freedom is Priceless!!!

Dear LT,

Do as Penitent says!

The 'blahs' are horrible, but definitely NOT as bad as cravings!   This is the Nicodemon, or your addiction, just letting you know it has not gone away, and is just hovering in the background waiting for a weaker moment to come in and strike!  You have just had weaker moments being on edge with your family...so in it came.  This is why I use the Mantra -  Never Look Back!  The Future is Ahead!

Stay strong and fight!

Love Lolly.

Hi LT,

Thanksgiving and family pressure has passed! May I suggest that you invoke your personal mantras and practise N.O.P.E. at your difficult times. You have come too far to throw it all away now!

Every battle won helps to win the war!

Good Luck!

Thanks for bumping this thread Pen. I've been going through a similar "blah" phase lately... and I recall having gone through it last quit around this time. I think 6 weeks to 2 months, you are far enough away from the agony of the quit, and also tired of the daily effort of quitting, that you start to have thoughts like "why not just one...?" Also the time of year doesn't help, I just spent several days with family which puts me on edge... and now the smoking dreams have started for me too. Through all of this I'm trying not to lose my resolve, even though the junkie in my brain wants a cigarette very badly.
