How to encourage members to post

I agree with Ron and Karren. Unless we are calling each other out of our names, the posts should be allowed to be. Tough love posts are generally balanced by posts whose love is less conditional.

I'm with Ron, we need an 'Open Forum' where things can be freely discussed. Of course, there has to be some moderation, for example if a member was rude or offensive or using profanities.

I think that keeping an open forum for people to say what they want is very important.  We all take time to respond to messages and if we feel our thoughts are going to be deleted then it we may not post.  I'm not calling out any names but let the boards just be and I think there will be many who will want to participate and these boards will thrive.
Cheers,
Ron

I am not sure that there is a way of encouraging members to post. After all it is a personal choice, right? I guess everybody "deals" with this whole quitting thinggy in their own way. For me, for the first few months, this site was the life line I needed in order to keep my quit. Then, I had a few months of paying it forward - when you feel you owe this site and the people here. Then, I started posting less. Commenting less. Logging in less. And, out of the blue, I just felt like coming back. To check on the people I knew, to ask how it's going, to just chat and share. So, here I am again! Sometimes I log in and check what's new. Sometimes I post. Sometimes I just read. But I am still here. Will I be here in 2, 3, 5 years? I don't know. But chances are...

Keep the quit

Cristina

Yeah. A list of milestones would be helpful. I've tried to keep track of the ones I notice are coming up on my computer calendar, but I miss a lot. We'll just have to call out our own milestones.

I will agree with what the other members have said so far.  Rock has a very valid point about the mile mark celebrations. It seem like I never see a post about a member reaching the cruise ship or landing on the beach.  Early in my quit these mile stones were somthing I strived for after seeing the congratulations offered to the quitters who made it there. Also I am one of those members that Jim refered to as being "miffed' at the "man" for not acting on our suggestions after asking for them.  As far as I know he never got back to us in any way.  I will continue to come here and post because I know that without this I would still be smoking.
