SILENCE = DEATH

Or in my case silence would have equaled failure.
I might not have always had the correct attitude; however, my coming here to post was a huge determinant of my success.

I came here and fought my way through craves, I found my personal method of quitting... particuilarly after having tried so many differnt ways. The more I fought my way through craves and urges on this forum the more I stepped through my fear, my anger and my grief. The more time I spent posting here the less time I had to smoke. The more I contributed here the more success I had in my own quit. (that I got to exchange information with some awesome and wonderful and generous co conspiritors was a fantastic bonus)

The knowledge that I gained and gain everyday... (I may hardly post here now, but, I read here almost every day) has given me freedom and continues to feed my success as a quitter. Knowledge is the perfect antidote to fear (funny that addictions and unexpressed fear and anger and grief can be so interconnected)... Posting here, and reading here helped me gather knowledge. This new knowledge fostered new strategies and  helped me grow my own record of success.

So no matter what any one might think about posting a few sentences or a couples of words on a common interest forum, you can always try something new and different and see if you can get a better result.
Posting here and being involved in whatever way can be that something new, something different and can totally make the difference between success and failure and in my case death.

Cheers
I look forward to reading everyday.

Best Regards
Phillip

I try to post as often as I can, as do many of us "old timers".  The one thing that I miss is Mr Ed's daily/weekly stat lists.  I know it took alot of time for him to post these, and unfortunately, alot of the newbies didn't get involved.  When we had daily or weekly lists, we knew when milestones were being reached.  It was great logging on and seeing your "name in lights".  I wish that SSC could have an automatic way to do that so everybody knew when milestones were reached.  It was so important for me early in my quit to get the praises from everybody here.  And for those who still live with smokers or don't have the support to stay quit, this online community may be all they have to get praise for their success.  I encourage anybody who is reaching a milestone, whether it be one day, one year, or 10 years to post their milestones so everybody can celebrate with them!  P.S.  I miss wearing my speedo on the cruise ship and on the beach since we don't always know when somebody is reaching those milestones!  And the value of my stock in little umbrellas has gone down since we aren't showering folks with umbrella drinks anymore!!!  LOL!!!

Also,

Would any of you mind if I quoted some of you to encourage new registered members to post in an email reminder service we are working on?

Members, if you still haven't added your two cents please do so.

Thanks for all the great ideas members.

I think it is important to add that everyone is welcome to post here.  If you are just thinking of quitting or if you are determined to stay quit; everyone is at different stages and that is ok.  Additionally, posting here does not require any sort of commitment.  You can drop in one day or stay for months.  The decision is up to you.  We all lead busy lives and whether or not you make the SSC a priority is your choice.  There is no judgement passed for how much or how little you post.  No guilt if you cannot find the time.  Some members feel the need to stay to support their SSC buddies and that is very commendable.  They have probably inspired many individuals.  That being said it is not expected.

If you are not sure what to post in the support group check out  the information above the forums called "support fellow members." To learn about how supporting other members can help you read "why you should participate"

Keep the great ideas coming!

Maybe members of SSC are not posting because there is already a wealth of questions asked in and advice offered in older threads for the problem or problems they are now encountering.  When some members have a question that is not previously asked or answered and they are at a loss for a solution hopefully they will post and help will be offered by members who have been there and made their way through it.

What I would say is this....  no matter how small you think your problem is or embarrassing, it doesn't matter because most if not all of us have been there and now we're here to help you through that same "icky" stuff.  We've been there and done that and are happy to try to help you navigate your way through it as well

Hi Ashley,  Hi would say to all registered members that your opinions all matter to us. Even if someone already said congratulations to someone it's nice to hear it from a lot of people.  Don't ever be shy to post, it doesn't matter if we make spelling errors, we always understand anyway. If you have something on your mind and feel frustrated with the cravings there is always someone here to encourage you. So don't be afraid to post.

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

13 years ago 0 1904 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I sent out a message from my Facebook account this past weekend for people to come here an celebrate some milestones for some other members. Frankly, I can see how after spending hours online early in our recoveries how we can get burned out. However, we need to realize that to keep it we need to give it away and that others helped us along when were were new.

My Mileage:

My Quit Date: 5/1/2009
Smoke-Free Days: 412
Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,536
Amount Saved: $4,902.80

Hi members,

We have a lot of registered members who are just not posting in the support group.  If you could say anything to these members what would you say to encourage them to post?
