Oh Lordy I wish I'd had the good sense to quit when I was your age. Yes you'll probably gain a few pounds but those are easy enough to lose later. Don't let that be even a small consideration. Congrats on making the decision, stick around, read and post, keep that quit going! Thanks to everyone, and what wonderful advice and encouragement you all gave. It's so nice to have support. Today was a hard day, mainly because it's the first time something extremely stressful came up...but I made it. I hope everyone else is doing well too!

hi Lauren, way to go on 4 days!!! you are doing the best thing for yourself by quitting. i am on Chantix now and its the best thing i've tried. i get the nausea for about 1/2 hr after i take it, but thats nothing compared to slowly killing myself with smoking. i just started my second month of it and i'm celebrating 1 month smoke free today. stay close, read all you can and post often. you ARE doing great...we're all right there with you. Lauren, I quit by using Chantx, too. I failed quitting twice before and using this med and it has saved my life. I am 12 weeks on Chantix and 10 weeks smoke free!! So, hang in there it will really help you get through it. Here are some of my side effects: 1)strange dreams 2) thirsty 3) constipation and 4) mild weight gain (2-3 lbs). On the plus side, it really calmed me down and killed my desire for a smoke. I just saw my doctor and I will gradually reduce Chantix to one pill a day for two weeks then one every other day then zero. If your side effects are mild, stay with it for the 10-12 weeks. The first time on Chantix, I stopped the drug in 3-4 weeks and started smoking again. There is lots of stuff posted on the site if you do a search for Chantix. Good luck and way to go!! Lauren, Great job on those 4 Days! The first ones are definitely the hardest and you've gotten them out of the way. I'm sure the Chantix posse will be here soon, I'm a cold turkey too so can't offer much about that. If you haven't done the online program yet, take some time to go through it. There is so much good stuff in there. Rewards are important too. I did gain weight but honestly the benefits of quitting smoking far outweigh (hee hee) any extra Martha I have now ;) Everyone is different though and there are many who either don't gain or actually lose weight. That can always be dealt with after your well into your quit though. Congrats and all the best My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1146 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 22,920 Amount Saved: $5,157.00 Life Gained: Days: 87 Hrs: 12 Mins: 12 Seconds: 57

Lauren, Welcome to the SSC! There are many threads on Chantix in our discussion forums. You can find them using our search engine. I'm sure our members will also be along shortly to share their experience with you. In general, it's a toss up, some experience slight withdrawal symptoms, others don't. Hi Lauren. This is a great place to start. My first comment might surprise you. You are twenty three. Nicotine is a very nasty addiction and the sooner you realize that the easier this will be for you. So prepare yourself as best you can. Do the program, read, read, read, all you can here. There is such a wealth of information. Do the program. Find some quit Buddies who are quitting close to the same day and hange with them because that really helps plus there are lots and lots of us quitters here to help you. Congratulations on quitting! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 204 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,100 Amount Saved: $2,152.20 Life Gained: Days: 24 Hrs: 22 Mins: 59 Seconds: 52
