Ok shy, sounds lke you are starting to retrain your thinking. Way to go. Stay on track now. When you feel like you are slipping, go back to the beginning of your quit and ask yourself why you are quitting. That will re-enforce your quit. Remember the trigger points. Shyanne, it might help you to list your trigger points. I wrote them down on a small pad so I could remember what they were. That really helped me a lot. Take it one second at a time. Stay busy as not to keep thinking about your addiction. Remember, its all in your head and your mind controls the physical part of lighting up. I walk shyanne, that helps me clear my mind and it rids the urge. When I walk, I think, I think about how nice it will be to breath. And as my quit gets longer, I notice how faster Iam walking without getting short of breath. Thats when it really kicks in that Iam beating this thing. Keep alert! keep focused! First. Welcome. Now, you really shouldn't smoke with the patch. Are you talking to any of these MDs regarding your desire to quit and seeing what they recommend. Some people do prescription medications and there's the patch, some cold turkey. all of this with or without support groups, books - people here swear by one in particular, gum, lozengers (sp?)and some kind of filter-only thingy. I've known others who've used hypnosis and others acupuncture. I may be forgetting something. I was on this site posting for 2 weeks before I quit during which time I cut down. This site has a nice workbook. There is a lot to think about but I say that planning is part of it. Whether or not you quit today. Get some coping mechanisms in place, a back up plan and a back up back up plan. Read some old posts here - they have a lot of great tips and support. How did you do it the last time you quit? Stay close. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi! I'm 46, smoked 34 years and had graduated to 3 packs a day for many years...I was diagnosed COPD, struggled with quitting various ways. This time I used prescription Chantix. Whatever you choose, remember that the desire and determination are key. All my failed quits were attributed to not abiding by NOPE-not one puff ever. Prepare yourself for this by working the program to the left. Get rid of all the smoking paraphernalia and jump on board with us! We're really quite a fun bunch :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 154 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,740 Amount Saved: $1232 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 9 Mins: 25 Seconds: 38

Shyanne, Welcome to the SSC! The final decision is entirely up to you. Ask yourself are you ready to give this up for good and never look back? Determination and desire are key. I can tell you that some members have found it helpful to work through our quit workbook and cut down before their quit. This gave them a chance to start practicing the new habit of not smoking by starting to eliminate it from certain places in their lives. They stopped smoking in the car, they started smoking outside... It also gave them a chance to delay their next cigarette by using coping strategies from their quit plan. This also help give them a better idea of what helped them get through craves and what didn't. Lastly, it helped them keep track of the reasons they were smoking which only help to strengthen their quit plan. Whether you choose the 15th or Monday, start preparing just as those who have come before you. Danielle _________________________ The SSC Support Team
